Does the time ever come when you might think "I'm bored of spending money on my car, I just want something I can get in and drive, and I don't really car what it is as long as it does stuff"?

I think I'm heading to that point. I've just worked out that between now and June, I could easily spend £6k on my car just putting it to a standard. That is £6k I could use (with the sale of my car) to better effect on something newer, probably less amusing but hopefully more reliable etc etc.

Then I look at it and think I should just spend the money as I still want a fast car!

Anyone else going through this process?

No. Sorry.

You need another car which is different. Unless of course your current car is something fairly impersonal which you wouldn't miss.

Controversially, I happen to find that reliability is inversely proportional to my interest in the car. If I'm not involved in it, I lose interest quickly.

You'll be buying a diesel econobox you don't recognise in an empty carpark on the basis that it "ticks boxes" in no time if you start down that path.

If you're looking at spending £6k, and bored, try the £5k smoker barges thread. Lots of ways in there to spend £5k and keep an interest!

And to answer the original point, no. Sometimes I do think, why do I spend all my money on my cars? And then I quickly come to my senses and realise, what else would I spend my money on - the wife?

I don't think it is just that I am bored of my car, but that I am bored of cars in general. I know once I have spent the £6k on it, I know aside from consumable's that it shouldn't need much more spending on it for a few years, and it will continue to increase in value (I hope!)

I know that if I bought something like an Audi C5 RS6, I'd enjoy it for a bit, want to make it faster, but then in the back of my mind I am thinking "whats the point?"

My life priorities seem to have changed since I bought my car.
