Thicko alert!!

How can I copy CDs onto my PC? Have recently got a phone with an MP3 player and wish to transfer some music. However, I am having difficulty in copying the CDs?? I am using XP.

Thank you!

Big Al.

Make sure you are not trying to copy them as DATA, you must copy them in audio format.

Took me a morning to sus that one out!

Thanks for the replies chaps! I have downloaded a free piece of software called Express rip by NCH (I think!!)

It seems to do the trick.

Cheers!!

This one allows you to rip copy protected CD's as well apparently, although my success rate wasn't very high

I thought all CDs were copy protected these days? I have just ripped a few tracks from The Killers album with no problem.

How are the above mentioned better than the standard rip function within media player 10? Seems to have worked fine for me

Get cdex as recommended above. Marvellous piece of software - and it'll do the WAV to MP3 conversion on the fly. I've ripped my entire CD collection with it, put the CDs in a cupboard and listen to the music off my server.

Windows Media Player 10 will rip to MP3. To change the settings go to Tools > Options > Rip Music > Rip Settings and select wma or mp3 as required.

Not all CD's, some have bad data written to the tracks which mean they skip when put in some players (CD players generally skip the badness, but some PC style readers don't). When I try to encode them it simply dies on me

I have a WMP10 puts loads of copyright information, limits playing... It's M$ either way and CDEx is a far better tool IMO (says the person still using WMP7)
