Hello,

We took delivery of a used '12 Kia Sportage 2.0 Petrol a few weeks before Christmas. I noticed fairly early on that, for example, after accelerating hard in first then shifting to second, the car hesitates for maybe a second and then carries on accelerating. This happens again second to third. It may well be present in fourth and fifth but I think the gearing makes it less obvious.

I haven't been back to the dealers yet because a, my dad died a couple of weeks after taking delivery (no correlation as far as I know) and the issue took a back seat somewhat and; b) the dealer is a long(ish) way away and finding time to get there and back and potentially be without the car for a while is problematic.

I wonder whether "they all do that" or whether a trip to the supplying dealer's is in order. It's a long way so I'd rather not go if I don't have to.

Any ideas, anyone?

Thanks.

Have a look on www.kiaownersclub.co.uk › Forum Home › KIA Models › Sportage

I believe from memory there is a section on this problem and it's related to fuel filter.

I've got a brand new diesel KX model and I sometimes detect a slight hesitation too. On mine it happens when you come off the gas and then back on in the same gear.

I hadn't looked there actually - thanks for the link. I had read something on the web about fuel filters but I thought that only related to diesels.

Does it do it all the time or only before the engine has warmed up?

All the time.

Having had a look on the KOC site it looks like "they all do that" but at least one person has persisted and a change/update to the ECU has fixed it.
