Exporting a UK registered car to Germany (orignally from US)
Discussion
I've done this before with no problems - UK registered car gets sold to German buyer and they then register it in Germany.
The question is does the fact my UK registered car was originally supplied and registered in the USA affect if it can easily be registered in Germany?
Anyone familiar with German car import rules, the car is a 2009 VW, it arrived in the UK 2 years ago, would that cause any problems with German registration the fact it was not new in Europe?

It'll probably make it a bit more complicated, because there won't be a certificate of compliance available.
If it were coming the other way, there'd be no duty or VAT - because it's coming from the EU, and that'll have been done when it came from the US to DE - but without a CoC, it'd need an IVA. I don't know what the DE cut-off date for not needing a CoC is, for the UK it's 10yrs, and that's probably standardised.

The exemption from needing a CoC or type approval/homolgation number is not standardised throughout Europe. I'm not sure about Germany but in Spain if the car does not have a CoC or a type approval number on the vehicle itself it needs an expensive engineers report doing at around €1800!
Knowing how the Germans run their MOT testing (with no modifications permitted unless TUV approved and therefore homolgated) I would imagine their system is similar to what I have to deal with here.
There are a few ways around this here and your german buyer may be able to do the same.
