Apple Ibook Hard drive problem

Morning,
My I-book G4 froze on me yesterday and on rebooting is now coming up only with a flashing question mark. I've tried re-installing the operating system but it cannot find any drive to install to, almost as if the hard drive just isn't there. Whilst this means my computer is going to have to go back to Apple (3rd time in only 10 mths of ownership and my second unit) do you know if theres any way of retrieving files (my photos in particular) from what appears to be a defunct hard drive?

Have you got or can you get DiskWarrior (probably the best for these sort of problems)? Put in CD drive, reboot holding down C key until you get the DW splash screen and go from there. DW is VERY successful and recovering dead disks.
