Flicking through the channels last night I came across a documentary on "Body Dysmorphia". This is where perfectly healthy people have an overwhelming desire to have limbs amputated.

I had heard of the condition before, but knoew little about it - I was truly staggered.

One woman in her 30's wanted both legs removed above the knee. A man in his 50's wanted surgeons to remove his right leg above the knee.

Both seemed quite sane (although obviously there are major issues there) and both were utterly convinced that they could never be happy as "complete" human beings.

The most amazing thing of all was that until recently an NHS hospital was offering this "treatment". Surgeons interviewed were prepared to remove limbs and effectively disable or cripple people because they reasoned that it was the only way these people could be happy.

Surely psychiatry could deal with this? But I was left amazed at how strange the human psyche can be.

What do you think? Seen anything stranger?

Wouldn't that just leave a gap?

But what next, a foot, his knees.....any more and he won't have a leg to stand on..

Wound sex. (forget the clinical term)

Or Stoma Sex

Both rank up there as oddest afflications...

The documentary on 'Chubby Chasers' was really interesting last week... I'd never heard the term 'BBW' before and had to put it in Google out of curiosity...

I saw a doc a couple of years ago on C4 about guys who, through some weird fear of castration, wanted to have their nuts removed.
This obviously left them both infertile and lacking in any hormonal action. They replaced the missing testosterone with daily jabs, implants or patches.
A couple of the guys involved were transgender, meaning )I think) that they were considering changing sex anyhow.
Some others seemed 'normal' apart from obviously sever castration anxiety and the desire to undergo, willingly, painful and traumatic surgery.
I have often feared for the well-being of my tackle when falling off the bike or whatever but I've never considered taking drastic action in order to avoid such a scenario. Have you?
