In a bit of a pickle, bought a Merc but the misses quickly realise she just doesn't like it.I quickly road taxed the car with the V5(still in previous owners name) which i still have, obviously when the misses quickly had doubts i held onto the v5 to save an extra owner on it and as i had advertised it already whoever i sold it to would have the full v5.I have a guy coming to see the car today,if i give him the full v5 i still have in previous owners name will 'i' get the road tax refund?I did it online.Thanks.

VED automatically refunded these days. New owners must tax car immediately upon purchase.

TX.

Edit - tbh how will "they" know who to refund given you've not yet popped up as registered keeper?!

Only refunded when DVLA receive notice of new keeper. Previous owner/keeper is going to get a nice bonus.

Upon transfer of the vehicle, any whole unused months of tax will be refunded to the previous keeper (as showing on DVLA records).

To be clear, are you saying that DVLA hasn't been notified that the keeper changed when you acquired the vehicle ? This would mean that, according to DVLA's records at least, the person from whom you purchased the vehicle would be the previous keeper and, as such, would receive the refund.

..and the guy coming this afternoon would be a muppet to buy the car as the addresses won't match.

I don't see how you can do what you're trying to do - I think the refund has to to go to the RK, but you're trying to be the RK and not the RK at the same time. Can't see how that's going to work. If DVLA are switched on (ha ha) you'll get a "fine" for faliure to notify surely?

No, you're not a back-garden trader. Of course not.

It is the vendor's legal responsibility to send the V5C to Swansea, and pass only the V5C/2 to the new keeper.

The registered keeper will get the refund, sent through to the address on the V5C.

I think this was the question i was trying to ask in a roundabout sort of way.I would have thought the details when the tax was bought online are undoubtably mine, don't know if the registered keeper has to go hand an hand with that?

Given that the DVLA have the ability to cock up even the simplest of tasks, what do you expect is going to happen?

The DVLA won't care who gives them the money for the road tax and they won't know either as it is just a case of imputting credit or debit card details into the website, you don't put an address or name in.

In this instance it will be the registered keeper who gets the refund.
