My windows leak because there is a visible gap between the seal and the window top. Can I do a DIY job or do I have to take it to the dealers?

Thanks

Mark

Yeah you can do this yourself - you can see what you need to do at: www.elises.co.uk/components/s1/windows/index.html

My car does the same but in the absence of time, when the door is open, I wind the window up as high as it will go, then I literally pull the window up from above (goes up maybe 1/8th inch) which is a quick fix. Gets rid of that gap at least!

Also see www.elise-faq.info/content/windows/index.php#SideWindowsHeightReplacement which if you click on the link to rebonding shows the door innards in more detail.

Be warned this is a real PITA job and very fiddly - I tried once and gave up. Instead I now have a very user friendly and very effective towel for wiping the droplets off the sill when it rains. Even with a sizeable gap (well, millimetres really but enough to see thru) the roof overhang seems to ensure any drips generally stay on the outside... maybe I'm lucky!?

If its an S2 there are just two screw adjusters that will you can fiddle with to change the gaps. That do not require you to take the door apart.

But it takes ages to get right (unless your lucky first time)

But if its way off it may be that its jumped the runner. Amazingley it will still work albeit with a big gap. Then its a panel off job to find out why its off the runners (normally due to a runner comming loose).

Good luck!

It is an S2 so I will remove the panel and have a look. The gap is probably about 5-8mm.

They are easy to spot look at the bottom inner face of the door front and back - the front one is in a lug the back one flush with the surface.

Its a slot screw with no head.

Be careful of over adjustment inwards or you can break the window on closing the door!

And its wise to count the turns so you can 'return to factory settings'.

Only if you cant get the adjustment do you need to take the panel off, to check the runners. (but would also look for other simptoms like a rattle)
