I know this has been asked before, but search is poor.
I want to get my carpets and roof replaced by someone familiar with the TVR S.
My first choice was the Trim Technician near Blackpool (as someone on here posted some excellent photos when they had their car done), but although I was booked in last year, he let me down for reasons which are unclear. I called him again last week, but still failed to get a definite appointment. frown

So, can someone please suggest a Trimmer they have used in the North West? The carpets are fairly easy but roof is a bit more specialist!

Thanks

There are a few people who I could recommend to do inside trim work but if you need the hood as well then I would try again at the Trim Technician. Mob 07946169158. He has just done the hood and a bit of interior trim for me (S1) and he had an S3 (and a Sunbeam Tiger) in as well. I went to him (John Giddings) on recommendation. If you want to email me I can give you further info. He is ex TVR as is his machinist. I know S hoods are pig to do as no two cars are the same and he has developed a few 'tweeks' to improve on the original. For example I now have his optional slightly larger and 'squarer' rear window which is a big improvement, but he will keep it original if you want.

A general note for any other S owner re trim. If yours is trimmed in Ambla rather than leather, it is almost certainly an ex-Jaguar item. The problem is that many of the colours are no longer used and no longer available. The trimmer may need to be given time to find material held on stock somewhere. (If you are going for a complete retrim then you can choose a current colour of course). Remember that a hood renewal will mean disturbing some panels of interior trim, and if the hood is rotten then the trim probably is as well. I knew mine would need the inside of the Targa panels, the rear hoop and the small rear panel doing. We were lucky to find a part roll of 'doeskin' in stock in Lancashire, but I am going to have to source some more for the next job.

Definitely worth persevering with John - the guy seems to have more work than he knows what to do with but price and quality are right up there smile

Wasn't there a trimmer in the old factory working alongside Surface & Design? D C Trim was it? How is their reputation now? It used to be very good.

The S3 that is with John is mine! Originally booked in for last April but had to be patient (plus I got to use the car over summer smile) finally went in recently. They are doing full interior & hood re-trim, & from what I've seen over their work it should be worth the wait.

Around ten years ago I had a new hood made and fitted for my 400SE by Martrim in Cheshire. They did a very good job and I think they've done quite a few TVRs over the years.

I too had communication difficulties with Trim Technician. I had a hood rear window replaced by D & C trim at the old factory site and they did a good job, very friendly and knowledgable guys. This was a few years ago now, so not sure of their current status.

In the Stockport area, my father had some Jag seats upholstered in leather to a fine standard by Pete Lenton http://peterlentoncartrim.co.uk/services.html

Thankyou for the advice Gentlemen, selection made! Car going in to the Trim Technician this weekend :-)

Richard, I agree with you, Trim Technician reputation is really good so he was always my first choice.

Doc Toad, your car looks fantastic! Considering it is not an S, that is! ;-)

I'll get my son to take some photos before and after so you can all see the difference!

No queue jumping!! Glad you made your choice Graham but now I'm feeling a little irked cos I don't want them to get anymore work until I get my car back!

I do not think you have to worry too much, John Giddings is aware of the issue and I think he will get back to you OK. I saw your car. Obviously it is a bigger job. Was the car originally that metallic grey paint colour? What colour are you having it done inside?

The car was originally Storm Grey although I had it repainted last year, most car manufactures have their own version of Storm Grey and I'm not sure who's TVR used originally so I went with Jags.
The current red/grey interior is being re trimmed in cream leather with blue carpets - a bit obvious I know but I like it.

Taking a steering wheel and some other bits up to Lee at Trim Unique www.trim-unique.co.uk tomorrow for him to work his wonders on. He is based at Cleveleys Business Park, just 10 minutes away from Bristol Avenue.

Great customer service and a fully qualified time served master craftsman upholsterer too.

Oh yes and he also makes a good cup of tea! hehe

Picked up the S3 from Trim Technician yesterday, very happy with the result.
Party7, don't worry, yours is well underway, but as Richard says, it is a much bigger job. Your new carpet looks really good!

Here's a few photo's to try and show the before:

And the after:
