Hi all

Picked up a new runabout for my MiL this morning. A 2006 (55 plate) 1.4vvti Corolla.

It's spot on, apart from needing a service and the new rear pads were advised on the last mot. I used these as negotiation items and got some cash off.

Just been on the ECP website as fancied using the new PH discont and ive found them teliable in the past.

The problem is, for the rear pads there seem to be 3 choices. Lucas, sumitomo and Aisin. There's also 2 disc option, a 268 and 269mm option.

So, given I don't have immediate access to the car, any idea how the hell I narrow down which ones are fitted to the car?

Try ringing a Euro's branch with the reg number. Sometimes they are able to narrow it down.

I do this all the time and TBH the reg is not normaly a perfect way to get the correct parts, looking on the vehical is the only way to be sure or remove the item and take it with you, it really REALLY plsses me off that you have to give the reg before 99% of parts retailer will search for a part (usually not my vehical and dont allways know the reg as i'm not with the car) then they supply the wrong part, with the excuse there are options ! no st sherlock thats why i gave you the reg !
Last night on ECPs website i wanted a fan belt (drive belt as they are now called) for a 94 clio 1.2, had the reg and full spec all enterd but the web site offerd me 7 options, 6 where wrong! fortunatly i knew i wanted a 3 rib belt not a 4 so i could reserve the correct one for collection tomorrow rolleyes

Tried that. No dice. If I were to get the vin number, would I be able to narrow it down online somehow?

I'd venture the disks are the same size with both "option", I'd think it's a typo.

I'd also go for Lucas pads over the others.

I don't think I explained that well in my op.

The pads are either eicher or pagid. But each one has the 3 options for the different system (I presume caliper) manufacturer.

What I'm trying to work out is which one is fitted to this Corolla. Ideally wanted to avoid stripping it down before i get the parts as wanted to order online.

To be fair to parts suppliers - sometimes only the manufacturer holds the details of the exact parts by VIN - and sometimes they aren't right. If they went through a phase of changing the spec/supplier these things can be hard to pin down, especially on older cars - and then there's the inevitable mistakes and that fact that some cross-references are wrong....
To achieve 100% guaranteed correct parts every time, they'd probably be more expensive than main dealers.

When there's that many options you really need to just get them off and check them - going through this at the moment with a Picasso which in typical French fashion has many many different parts bin raider style combinations
