Seamaster info
Discussion
I fancy getting a used Seamaster. I have a few auto watches and thinking a quartz Seamaster might make a nice change and useful grab and go watch, with lower ownership costs.
Since a Omega have stopped making quartz SMPs, might parts and repairs be an issue in the future?
How much is a service for the autos or quartz models?
Any recommendation on dealers or websites to buy from?
Cheers.
Before Christmas we bought the girlfriend a Seamaster auto (2531.80.00).
The watch was 10 years old but we purchased from WofS pre-loved range and so it came fresh from an Omega service and looked brand new. Also included a 2 year WofS guarantee too.
I would pop in to your local branch and see what they have.
I don't know the price for a Seamaster quartz service but Omega wan't £300 for the standard auto or £480 for the chronograph version.

I paid £360 the last time I had my SMP auto serviced. The wife has the ladies quartz version which I got for her as a wedding present in 2002. It's never needed a service but the last new battery and reseal was £70 through Omega.
They'll both be going to an indie next time, somewhere like Watch Doctors in Tring who charge half that http://www.watchdoctors.co.uk/price-guide/

IMHO picking a quartz seamaster pro is a easy descision. "Grab n go" ( your description) is exactly right. I bought one a few months ago ( from Austin Kaye) and although it's nearly six years old it arrived as new. It's been brilliant , never have to check it's running or needing wound before wearing and it's accuracy is fantastic. I'm sure watch specialists on here would manage to keep it running for many years if repairs were needed and at a realistic cost. I've included a pic , it shows my recently overhauled speedy ( showing manky/work worn parts that were replaced after 15 years ownership ) and my daily seamaster. A perfect pair for me , the daily (accurate) quartz and a winding weekend special. Best of both worlds....Good luck with your choice.
