Hi guys,

I have just bought my first TVR, an S2 (or probably an S1.5) as it has twice the spec of a S1, but half the new 'bitz' of an S2. Please help! As my car has manual windows, is it possible to convert to the electric versions? Also, the gear lever has a habit of jumping out of reverse. Do you think that the slave cylinder is at fault. Lastly, I live in the North East of Scotland, does anyone know where I can get the car properly set up on a rolling road. Am loving the car so far, just wish we could get rid of all the ice on the roads! Have already changed the colour of my boxers!

Hi Ian

Congratulations on the purchase of your S.

In answer to your points:-

You may be able to pick up an electric window assembly from Bell Hill garage (have a look in the PH TVR S classifieds and you should find their details). Personally, I'd fit an after market conversion kit.

It sounds a bit like a worn gearbox but it'd be a little unusual for reverse to do this unless the previous owner drove everywhere backwards! I'm not sure the slave will make it jump out of gear, more likely is that engaging gears will be tricky. Anyone else have any ideas on this?

Hi Ian, yes I agree with Kentish - would n't think it is slave cylinder - more likely a worn gearbox - detent springs possibly in the selector mechaism inside the box.

Is it difficult to select reverse ? "Cos they all do that sir!" If the slave is leaking or not bled properly is is diffult to select first/reverse from stationery.

Hope this helps and is not too depressing.

Dreadnaught are TVR specialists in Scotland I think, someone here will confirm although whether they have a rolling road is another matter .

Enjoy the car !

Thanks for the advice, I was also thinking that as the car has a pretty new clutch fitted (less than 500 miles ago) it might be worth replacing the clutch fluid and bleeding the system first. Am I correct in thinking the clutch is hydraulic, and therefore not adjustable?
The car had not really been used for over a year when I bought it, so I wonder if the fluid is poor? What do you think? (I had to change and bleed the brake fluid straight away too!)

Does anybody remember the thread about "will the last one out turn out the lights"

Here is your answer, this is the third new S member in as many days and it's the winter.

Hi - where in NE Scotland are you? I'm near Elgin and in the past have used a rolling road on outskirts of Aberdeen. Can't remember name at the mo' but email me from my profile and I will dig it out if it is near enough.

Ian - welcome to S world!
Kentish mentioned Bell Hill breakers, and there's more! Try also Douglas Valley breakers who specialise in Tivs.
In addition to this worthy site, you can also pick up useful info via the club.
If you haven't got a copy already, I would recommend the 'Bible' obtainable through the TVRCC. It's the nearest thing to a workshop manual you can get for the S.
Good luck - Nick (Hants)
