Lots of smoke

Hi all. I bought my Audi A4 2007 2.0tdi estate 185,000 miles a couple of months back and on idle it smokes like a chimney.

It's had the partical filter removed at some point and remapped due to this.

Any ideas on the smoke? It's pretty bad but seems to clear when I set off. Worst and best scenario?

It seems to run fine, if a little jumpy on idle. The only problem is that I have to top up the coolant every month but I've discovered this is coming out of the overflow of the reservoir so it must be running hot? Gauge never goes above halfway but it's always at halfway!

It would be helpful if you stated what colour of smoke.

But it will not be down to the removal of the DPF, as either way it should not smoke.

I don't want to panic you so it's best to get it checked
