White is officially the colour of choice for UK car buyers

Gah!

White cars now take up 22% of all new orders in the UK.
Black is second with 19%.
Grey is third with 14%.
Is this all driven by fear of resale values?! Why do people 'like' white cars?
Oh and my car is grey, but that's cos I thought it looked better than the alternative options!

People pick the colour they like best from the choice which is available. I've never understood why that causes so much comment.
The only time I was able to pick the colour on a brand new car I went for a gunmetal grey, I picked it because I liked it. Not personally a fan of white cars in general but meh, everyone is different.

So more than half the cars registered in the UK are a shade of grey. I don't think that'd be a surprise to anyone who's been on the roads recently.
It's enormously frustrating when trying to buy a second-hand car, but then that's one of the things you pay for when buying new, I suppose.

I thought my car looked great in white when I viewed it, despite not being a big fan of the colour. So it didn't stop me purchasing. But given the choice, I think I would have gone for a different colour; would be nice to have a bit more depth to the paintwork. And the car stays pretty much brown for most of winter anyway

Look at all the cars in the background of the OP's photo, that says it all!
What, those 3 silver cars?
White has gone full circle, or is half way through it's circle depending how you look at it
Toward the end of the 90s start of the 00s, white was one of the least popular colours in UK, so much so that even the police were having to switch to buying silver cars to ensure a reasonable resale value on ex cop cars.
Reason being that throughout the 80s and early 90s, white had been the mark of an ex fleet car, taxis, police cars and generally any business looking to save a few £, and not take any risk on the colour bought white.
But as white had fallen so far out of favour, it was again available as a colour that stood out, but in an inoffensive way, thanks to apple, gloss white has already started to become a bit of a fashion colour in consumer electronics, this helped white bounce back in a big way. The problem is now it's lost it's stand out factor, and has gone back to being a low risk popular colour for fleet buyers, and the mass market consumers, very soon they will catch on that white has lost it's following and it will become unpopular again

It wasnt that long ago that every other car was silver, seemed that black took over from that with white a close second
We have just ordered a base white Prius for the wife mainly because she is god awful at parking and metallics are harder to match and also since it will be treated as/is essentially "white goods" it seemed fitting

Just ordered a lease car in white for the reasons mentioned above - saves cash on a car I won't be keeping long-term, plus I think it looks good in white. As a plus it is more visible in poor light conditions, and will be cheaper to keep cool on a warm day (the reason black cars are banned in California).
Must say the default paint palette of a lot of manufacturers is dreadfully boring these days - various shades of grey, black and a dark blue - it's like they've all drawn inspiration from John Major's sock drawer.
US cars seem to have a better degree of choice (although some of their colours don't work so well in Europe).
