This car replaced the Alto, yesterday, on the UK market.

Today it was recalled because the brakes failed at high speed:

So much for all the testing the manufacturers do, looks like the UK press might have saved a few injuries.

Has anyone bought one?

Isn't this the car that the Telegraph had as a full front page advert yesterday.

I'd be interested in knowing what component has failed here.

Master Cylinder, Caliper etc...

Anyone know?

Credit to them for trying fixing it right away, rather than denying there is a problem smile

My first thought was that they'd put the master cylinder on the left of the car and run a bar across under the dash like an E30 BMW. But looking at the internet that's not the case. Intriguingly the same car is sold in India which is an RHD market, but India isn't in the recall.

I found an Indian website where they're discussing it.

Personally I'd guess that they've used a different ABS module for the markets that demand an electronic stability programme, and that's what's failed. That would more or less tally with the markets they've recalled, and the symptom could well be caused by poorly ABS.

Who cares, no ones actually going to buy one in the UK unless a) they have a fetish for depreciation, b)are over 75 years old or c) are clinically insane/stupid - Cheapo car designed to be sold in places like India or used for holiday rental
