Have 4k to spend on my first car, need an automatic, 2008 + low mileage (obvs) Would love some opinions on what other cars I should/could be looking at as I'm getting bored looking at micras!!!
Thanks for your time!

Why Auto?

If you go manual you can open up your options substantially.

Live in Central London and being lazy passed test in auto, never get out of second gear round here anyway so didn't see the point until I tried to buy a car...limited big time but there must be something out there other than a micra!

Honda Jazz?

Ignore the fact people will think your an old git (you might be I guess) it's not as bad as the image might suggest.

Failing that, this is £500 under budget:

A bit off topic, sorry OP, but can you drive a DCT equipped car if you only have an auto licence?

Yeah. If it hasn't got a user-controlled clutch it's an auto.

Haven't the time to retake test, would completely LOVE the Merc it's a beautiful motor but insurance would cripple me, just had a look at the Jazz, good suggestion, thank you, will investigate more regarding prices etc.. and didn't think of a DCT will check out licence as this may be an alternative and free up a few more options

Dont worry about mileage, just look for something with good history thats been well maintained, a good stack of receipts with a high mileage car is worth much more than a few old MoTs with a low mileage car. £4k will get a nice C200, E90 3 series or Saab 93

You might be surprised by the insurance on the Mercedes, do an online quote and see what happens. If you are not doing many miles it might even qualify for a classic policy which can be very cheap, not sure if new drivers can get that or not though.

Mondeo auto diesel. I know you said 2008 and newer but I had a 2003 and it was a nice car very quiet and great in traffic. Didnt have granny image either.

Thanks for the suggestions....wouldn't mind a c200 but being my first car (no ncb) I'm not sure the insurance being the same price as the car is going to work!

Looked at mondeo's being picky but much prefer new shape and styling.
All good suggestions being considered, thank you but Central London living I need something slightly more compact than a Saab 93 etc..
