Hi all,

My father had a heart attack last October and was taken straight to Papworth and given a stent (Papworth were incredible) and he is now back in work full time.

He is taking it easy but apart from not pushing himself is fit and as healthy as can be for a 59 year old.

As he is 60 soon I want to get him a flight experience in a Tiger Moth due to his many years reading Biggles and Commando books.

Is this a good idea? I presume it to be ok as he is now back in work full time. The experience doesn't seem too taxing but for obvious reasons I can't ask him outright what he has been reccomended.

Dave!

Ive been thinking along the same lines actually, heres the health stuff from a random outfit with a Tiger Moth, although they all have broadly similar disclaimers

We are not qualified to express an opinion confirming that you are fit to fly and you must ensure that you are fit to fly.

You must not fly if you are suffering from any serious medical condition (including epilepsy, fits, severe head injury, high blood pressure or heart conditions), or have recently undergone surgery, unless you have a certificate of your fitness to fly from your doctor.

So your old man needs a doctors certificate - which will NOT be free
Im not sure how a doc assesses fitness for a quick spin in an old plane but there you go

Good luck

EDIT: I appear to have lost my powers of formatting??

I read the same website and it seems it wont be much of a surprise present.

I guess taking medication is classed as still having a heart condition which as you say may require a doctors certificate.
