Hi everyone, I have bought an Audi A3 2006 and I'm getting a "Coolant Low" message on the dash when I start it up! (Not every time but it has a few times now seems to be when its cold first thing in the morning)

I've checked the levels and they are perfect

Can anyone help me please?

Faulty sensor in the header tank, very common. I had it on my mk1 Octavia vRS.

A new tank for ~£20 will fix it. You don't even need to drain the coolant, suck out the tank, replace the tank and top up.

Another possibility might be the battery, is it the original? Our punto did funny coolant messages which are related to low voltage on startup. Wasn't everytine and the car started fine, but a new battery stopped it. Might be worth an investigation if the above idea doesn't solve.

I have the low coolant light on permanently in my old 306 - replacing the sensor would probably increase the value of the car.

As a result, I'm more worried when it isn't on than when it is!

I replaced mine myself. It's a 20-30 minute job at most, I'd guess at £50 ish including the tank.

Nice picture from the bay showing the built in level sensor that is probably the main culprit here...

before replacing it i would give the sensor a clean they usually get a layer of scum on them an a quick clean usually sorts the problem

Whey are they located and just wipe them with a rag?
