I have a second/thrid car which, minus an MOT would be worth scrap. It's a tidy, low mileage diesel with a big boot but it's an undesirable model and was made in the last millennium. It's also sort of purple.

To my surprise it got a clean sheet on the MOT this week and currently runs very sweetly and has a famously bullet proof engine.

What is the minimum price for such a car? I was already lining up a replacement, expecting it to fail, but given the clean sheet it may be wise to bail out now anyway if it's worth as much as its ever likely to be. The sensible thing would be to hang onto it but I'm bored of it and want an old Saab.

If the car is running well and has a full MOT, I'd probably stick with it if the car isn't worth much.

Chances are if you are buying something else really cheap, you'll end up buying something that needs money to be spent on it.

I'd just stick it on eBay with a starting bid of £200 (assuming scrap value is £150) and let it run. For comparison, I bought my essentially scrap-value Rover for £290 and stuck a year's MOT on it. Worst comes to worst, you'll get £201 for it and it'll be gone.

What car is it? You'd be surprised how many regular members on PH are on the hunt for a shed at any given time.

I never understood this 'full' MOT, it either has an MOT or it doesn't?!

I think you've missed the point. Full mot means 12 months.
