Credit card shipping address
Discussion
Does anyone here ever have trouble with ordering goods over the internet with their credit card and selecting a shipping address that is different to your billing address?
There seem to be loads of online retailers now saying that goods can only be delivered to your billing address. I contacted my bank (HSBC) and they said that you can specify whatever address you like and they don't reveal the billing address!
So what's the real deal with this?

When I used to be a credit card retailer that was one of the strictest rules, goods absolutely had to go to the card holder's address. The idea was that you had to take the address and check with the CC company.
If you didn't chrck the address and it turned out to be a fraud then you were on your own, and had to bear the cost of the fraud
Maybe they've changed the rules, I don't think so, though. I reckon retailers who send to a different address have chosen to take the risk to get the sales

We have to take the full address and postcode etc of the customers home, but goods can be delivered where they like. I have had a problem of an order I made having to be delivered to my home, as it was the first order. Apparently, any subsequent orders can be sent anywhere, but the first one had to go to the cardholders home address.
Another one we get is people ringing up to pay for goods for somebody else to collect. No way, Jose!

Always amazes me how relaxed they are in the US. I've ordered lots of stuff and had it delivered to hotels just prior to, or during my stay (some hotels charge $5 or so for doing this).
If you buy something in a shop, the *never* check the signature, just swipe the card and hand it back.
