What's the difference between binge drinking...
Discussion
...and simply getting drunk?
Seems to me that if the authorities want to frown on something, they have to invent an "evil name". Why not call it what it is "getting drunk". Alternatively, why don't the public invent evil names for the Government's actions, possibly:
"Citizen Theft" = squandering tax payers money.
"Bollox Squeezing" = finding new tax opportunities.
"Creative Fiction" = Labour manifesto.
I'm sure there are others, but I'm off to bed!

I think in official (PC!) terminology, binge drinking would be something like deliberately drinking large amounts of alcohol with the intention of getting drunk (as I will do after my exams
) whereas getting drunk is basically drinking but not doing it to get deliberately very pished.
IMO it's all daft terminology for drinking!
Creative Fiction one might say

It is only 4.50pm los angeles. I think you may have a drink problem.I thought that binge drinking was a term given to the practice of getting extremely drunk periodically. Whereas me, I just get drunk every night.
So, not being an infrequent affair, it cannot be considered to be a binge, if that makes sense.
The dictionary definition of binge is: n (sl.) drinking-bout, spree. [probable origin dialect, = soak]
Theoretically speaking, of course. I'm not really an alcoholic.

Hi Emma
! I had a thought about this ( ha, ha! only one, Dave?)
Having heard that writers get in touch a "Muse" (what ever that is), it now seems that I have mis-understood, it must have been "Booze"!!!

Binge:
(US) Consuming 5 drinks or more at one time. Say a party or an evening.
5 drinks translates to about 2.5 UK pints or 5 mixed drinks, glasses of wine, etc..
Don't want anybody who has done that driving on my roads until the next day.
Dave
2.5 pints? Thats it? I thought there was a time span in there as well, like not more than 2 times a month. Anywho, 2.5 pints puts me just beyond buzzed, I wouldn't call that "binge" drinking.

Yes there is, I can't find the whole list of stats right now. More than 3 times a month could be the figure, maybe.
Remember though, those UK pints are almost 20 US oz., so you are talking about 4 and-a-bit 12 oz. beers. If that only gets you buzzed, next check-up ask for a liver function test. Might be suprised.

If I'm around drinkers I'll keep it down to a glass of wine. When not among them it's coffee, orange juice or water. (Ooo, who's Mr Cleansie Weansie, spoilsport Teatotaller, then?) Not quite, but as far as liquid intake is concerned, almost bionic. Also, I'm a bartender's nightmare. I do not have a boozer's face. I can stand at an empty bar waving a bunch of notes and still not get served. Over here! Excuse me! I say! Ah, thank you. Barman, what kind of sherry do you serve?
HA!!!!!
I can hear it now, "Sherry?? She went off shift an hour ago, sorry."
And then back to the real customers.

Have you ever drunk a "binge"?
