Having problems fitting my cable into the gearbox end. When I tightern it up it keeps pushing the inner bit out. The hole is clear. I'm thinking the male part could be slightly too big. How can I sort this out? Can I file a bit more of a flat on it? I'll wait for an answer first just in case.
Regards.

Dunno 'bout the Vixen box, but on my 5-speed type 9 to Essex, I did as follows; 'secure' the inner cable with gaffer tape at the gauge end, install box end, install circlip, lead cable to interior and gauge, remove tape, install gauge end .

May be too big or too long, as you say, but also here is a less obvious one - is the hole in the drive gear clean ? If it's full of dirt, grease or oil, it can form a kind of 'lock' and stop the cable going in. You can use a small twist drill to clean out the hole.

Thanks. Will have another go at cleaning it out. ABSOLUTE bugger to get to though! Then might file a small amount off the edges and keep on trying to fit.

I 'thought' the 2500 came with a 90 degree drive converter (that are problematic), so the cable did not have to drop side on into the gearbox and bend the cable painfully.

Adrian, I'm probably telling you what you know already, but just in case, those 90 degree adaptors were standard on all early Triumph 2000 and 2500 saloons up to about 1974.... could well have been in other Triumph models too
