My E39 M5 goes up for sale this weekend frown.
I need to replace it with a car that I can do 20k miles a year in and not be a diesel!
I will have upto £6k to spend and it needs to be interesting, have a decent turn of speed and try and do 30+ mpg.

I've considered the Mazda6 MPS, and the Saab 9-3 Aero 2.8t. Any other suggestions?

Sorry, I know it is another what car post!

Why not a diesel?

Late model Mondeo ST220? Good to drive from what I've heard.

I don't like diesel's, and they're just a bill waiting to happen. I want something quickish as well and diesel's don't hit the spot.

Cheers, though the other cars with the exception of the E36 M3 (which a good one is North of £6k, and requires much much maintenance) aren't floating my boat.

I did consider one of these, but I discarded it as they're not that quick and very thirsty.

There's not much better than a 330 BMW but obviously you want something different.

How about an Alfa Romeo 159 3.2 Ti?

I like 159's, just not sure I could live with one hehe

Re the 330i, I agree they're cracking cars, but define not much better?

Re E60 - Only an M5 for me. The rest are a bit meh.

You're obviously a tough nut to crack hehe

I just mean the 330 is generally a damn good car i.e. good at everything

I've heard the 159 is actually a fine car too, but I've never owned one to back that claim up. Look at it though...

I am indeed a tough nut to crack. I'm someone who couldn't decide on DD as I wanted something decent for under shed money hehe

Oh the 159 is a fantastic looking car. I like the face lifted 166 as well.

I'd like two proper seats really as I do sometimes have more than just me and mrs AngryDog in the car.

Depends what your circumstances are, when I did 30k miles a year, I bought an Octavia VRS Tdi out of necessity. 50 mpg and could overtake.

Now I don't but I've kept it for the 6 hour round trip to pick my nipper up.

I've just bought an E46 M3 for weekends, trackdays and the Ring... driving

Why would you be getting rid of an E39 M5 only to get a 645ci?

Aren't they just as bad on fuel and as expensive to run?

God, that car still looks better than anything else in its class. The new Giulia has a lot to live up to. And getting 30+mpg out of a 6MPS should prove interesting. Low 20s is the norm.

I think about it weighing too much and being old... and then I see a photo like that and still want one. hehe

9-3 2.8, I'm tempted by one as well, they're very tuneable!
