Hey everyone, I know I'm going go get the usually "you should have stopped in plenty of time", " its Green, amber red for a reason" responses but I just want to clarify something I've been wondering for a while.

When do the red light cameras come into action exactly. I know that once the light turns red they record anything that moves beyond the stop line but what if you initially crossed the line on amber but the tail of your car is unfortunate enough to still be behind it?

Would you receive a fine even though you have crossed before it has turned red?

When at a driver awareness course I was told they activate 3secs after the red.

How much truth is in that I do not know.

I think it's normally a couple of seconds after the red comes on, but technically, if any part of your vehicle crosses the stop line while the red light is illuminated, then the offence is complete.
