Hi All,

Thought I'd introduce myself now that I've finally pulled the trigger and bought myself one!

Picked it up from Caterham South on Monday. It's an ex-academy K-Series car with a few goodies (low battery, Apollo tank, carbon wings)

Only driven it for about an hour so far as I'm currently offshore but will be taking it home to Aberdeen in a couple of weeks - can't wait!

Any 'must haves' or 'must do' items? I'm going to get a half-hood I think and I suspect that the front camber may be a bit extreme for road and occasional track use.

Dominic at Caterham suggested that I 'kill' those tyres relatively quickly and get some Avons on there to improve the predicatablility and ride...

Few photos on the Caterham site of how it used to look before the Tillets and full cage got removed: http://uk.caterhamcars.com/pre-owned/1380-academy

Last time I saw camber like that was on the back of an Alpine Renault A110 in RAC Rally ! Enjoy the car ...it will improve your quality of life immeasurably.

I think the photo makes it look worse than it is but it's definitely 'pointy'! Yep, ex-academy which is probably where the set-up has come from, think I'll be getting it set a little more appropriately for road use at some point.

Lovely colour.

I bought an 07 academy car last year. Things to do: Check for cracking round the ends of the water hoses as the standard Caterham rubber ones don't last. Check whether it warms up ok - academy cars have no thermostat as standard and the r500 fan switch fitted to them lowers the temp that the fan kicks in. Get some CR500s which are excellent. See if the MSA seals are still on the cambelt cover which would be a giveaway that the cambelt's never been changed. Think about changing the sump foam if you don't know when it was last done as its known to disintegrate and can block the oilways up.

Nice thumbup

I've got a Gulf coloured Caterham as well except don't have the stripe on the back panel.
I kept looking at the one you've bought on Caterham's site to decide whether i should get the rear panel done or not confused

Enjoy the car smile

888's I think .. but they won't last long with that camber! I'd get CCS to set it back to something sensible :-)

Yeah, they're 888s. I've already collected it but will definitely be having a look at the geo print out that came with the car and thinking about dialling it back a bit. Very much looking forward to getting it out on the Scottish roads!

How come the rear stone guards aren't very high - custom job?

Yup, it looks like they're just a carbon-effect viynl - not bad at all but may get some with bigger surfaces in the fullness of time.

Two weeks cannot pass quickly enough, luckily we're pretty busy with a shutdown so time flies!

Mines on the road, ready to go, but my starters buggered, so I'm awaiting one from the UK. The tracking says that the package has missed it's plane numerous times!!

How frustrating, hope it arrives soon for you! In the mean time you could bump start it and just keep it running? ;-).

That's how I got it to the garage for road worthy checks. I have a fear of stalling and being fecked. Batteries charged via my new battery charger. New starter and I'm invincible.

Know that feeling well - when you know your off date time just drags out, especially the last few days..!

Hey, I saw you driving quite the thing this sunny morning down by the reservoir in Cults. Looks very good, and you seemed pretty chuffed. I was using mine - blue with clamshell wings - every day since November but sadly its in the garage getting remapped for the cold Scottish weather right now. Enjoy.....

Hi Andy, that can't have been me as the car's at my parents' house in Southampton just now! Be intriguing if there are two Gulf coloured Sevens in the Aberdeenshire area though! Will definitely try and get along to some of the PH Ecosse meets now I have something vaguely worthy (last 'proper' car was a Z4C 3.0 which kind of counts I suppose).

That's interesting. We'll certainly light blue with a stripe and a youngish chap with a hat something like yours...
