The Euro vs Pounds Sterling - Buying a RHD Porsche in Europe
Discussion
Just wondering if anyone has done this recently ?
Whilst euro's seem cheap if you're buying them with sterling, I don't see many signs of UK Porsche dealers reducing their prices because of this.
Must be possible to buy an RHD Porsche from a european Porsche dealer and save some money by paying in euro's.......

Do you pay their relevant taxes and then 'just' pay import duty?
Back in the day i had a Dutch imported RHD Clio 172. I'm not sure how it worked but i think a lot of the car brokers and leasing firms brought them in on the cheap. As a consequence it had the manufacturer warranty rather than a UK specific one (one less year) and it had to have an aftermarket alarm fitted.

European prices are no lower than uk spec for spec, even at 1.3x euro to the pound.
You'll have to I pay forts year road tax, and fit the uk tracker, and you'll have a car that's worth less as it's got the wrong country code on it
It'll cost you more even if they don't stick a rhd surcharge on the car.
At 1.5 it might be a different story

Something not quite right about this.
In the last 12 months the Euro has gone from 1.2 to 1.3 - a significant change in percentage terms.
If UK and European prices were identical 12 months ago then they aren't identical now.
Unless European prices were higher than UK prices at last years exchange rate....

Euro price was marginally higher, and now on a par.
. Variations between countries are more variation in sales taxes, and spec.
US looks cheap, but they don't have PCM as standard or full leather and their prices are pre sales tax.
When you look at the uk price, take off the dealer fit tracker, third year warranty, and first years road tax, and the use that price for comparison.
There's nothing to be saved abroad.

Bear in mind that there are things going on behind the scenes such as setting prices to what it is perceived the market will pay (just look at US prices for an example of that) and currency hedging. 10 years ago a pound was worth €1.5 - at one point 6 or so years later there was danger of pound/euro parity. Porsche (and other German brands) didn't raise their prices by 1/3 at the time.
