Just wondering if anyone has experience using go pro on trackdays etc and if they really are the best 'action camera' available
Can anyone suggest a better alternative for either quality or ease of use?
I have no experience using one so dont know if there is better available just less marketed etc

Also best way to mount to helmet i guess is the adhesive mounts?

Check with your track day organiser whether they'll let you go with suction mounts/adhesive mounts, some are funny about it in general, some are OK with rollbar mounts, some just ignore it and let you crack on

Camera wise, goPro is alright, dogcamsport was at one point the place to head towards, no idea if that's still the case

Does the thread discuss alternatives or just the go-pro?

It would certainly answer the question of is a GoPro really the best track camera. Plus a lot of good advice within the thread from people who have tried alternatives.

If that's the case I'm sure would be a good read yes

I have done some trackdays and there are a bunch of different options for filming. Some of the cameras with telemetry are fun but most people have a GoPro.

In terms of to GoPro or not to GoPro, I do a lot of white water kayaking and use a GoPro Hero 3+ Silver edition. There are a bunch of us who go together with different cameras ranging from the GoPro Hero 2, Garmin Virb, Sony ActionCam, GoPro Hero 3 Black, and mine the silver3 +.

Of all the footage, the GoPros are the best. I know I sound like a fan boy but I would compare most of the footage from the sony and garmin ones to the same as the gopro hero 2.

If all you want to do is film the action, GoPro now do a GoPro Hero which I think is only about £99.

Have a look at the Drift Ghost and Ghost S for an alternative, the rotating lens is the best thing ever which makes it fast and easy to set-up and start recording.

Long battery life too.

I've got a JCV Adixxion action cam. The image quality is good and it's easier to use than a Go Pro

I considering one of these (or a Hero 4 Silver). Still can't make my mind up

The GoPro seems to have more settings and the fact that the Ghost is only weather resistant in some forms or only resistant to 3m is quite lame. Looks good though.

Would recommend a Drift Ghost too. I've found it very quick and easy to use and the remote control you can strap to your wrist is good for cycling as you can set it to take a full res photo in the middle of video recording. As Klippie said the rotating lens is a fantastic idea as it makes it so easy just to mount the camera securely and then just rotate the lens to get a nice horizontal image.

But on the Drift side: longer running time, easier remote, rotating lense, and loop facility which is appealing

Isaw extreme camera. LCD screen, plenty of accessories included, wifi, 1080p 60fps. All for under £180 I got from Netherlands.

I couldn't fault it and thought colours were truer then the red glow of the go pro's. It uses a sony lens as well. If I used the action camera a lot more I may of gone for the go pro.
