Basically I'm in the market for an early 4.3 V8V.

Budget of up to £42k. Which would buy me a car from a main dealer with 12 month warranty.

Or do I buy a private car for mid to high £30k's and use the remaining cash for a warranty and a clutch/brakes/tyres et al?

I agree with latter, really no need to spend 42k on a 4.3 V8V. I think you can get a good example for 35-38k and don't worry about the miles, even at 30,000 miles or so they are still bullet proof cars.

If you really feel like stretching your budget for a 4.7, there is a private example on sale for £47,500 with 16,000 miles. Probably open to offers so who knows. I would obviously have it inspected. You then get the newer engine and dash smile

£42k will get you a very nice 2007 car privately and a very good wedge of cash for bits and bobs. I bought / sold privately and would do so again.

would recommend getting privately as well, and look for the best maintained car that has proof of YEARYLY maintenance first, rather than just mileage.

lol my V12 has 30k on it so an older car with that low amount is a no brainer smile

I agree, no need to spend that much on the 4.3 experience. £35K will get a nice one ....or save up a bit more and get an early 4.7
