Hi all,

Starting to dawn on me that I need to do something with a 3 rd kids due in 1 week. Modern child seats take up more space than an entire adult and our estate bmw318 cannot handle 3 kids.
Any suggestions? The wife is not to bothered, but the problem is I would like something with a little pistonhead street cred.
I would like a merc viano to help with ski trips etc, but the wife wants "something that looks like a car"
This is a list from the Which website, but the problem is they all look so boring and dull.

I think I was mistaken in thinking the volvo XC70 had 7 seats and the v70 7 seater's seem very rare.

Unfortunately my Jaguar XJS was outgrown after the second kid :-)

Citroen Grand Picasso
Ford Grand C-Max
Kia Carens
Mazda 5
Peugeot 5008
Toyota Verso
Toyota Prius+
Vauxhall Zafira
Volkswagen Touran

As for large MPVs, these are now much rarer than they used to be. Choose between:

Chrysler Grand Voyager
Ford Galaxy
Ford S-Max
Seat Alhambra
SsangYong Rodius
Volkswagen Caravelle
Volkswagen Sharan

Some not in your list:

2004(ish) Merc M class
Discovery 3
Volvo XC90
Espace / Grand Espace

My choice would be an S-Max.

Older Merc MLs can be had with 7 seats (same platform as the R class), as can the occasional E-class estate.

LR Disco 2 and 3 as well.

Citroen No. Unless you want a very unreliable vehicle.

Sliding doors on the larger ones make them a doddle in car parks, easier than the smaller (touran/zafira) size with conventional doors.

I've turned into my dad. Help me.

The disco looks tempting and seems to fit the bill although "a little large" apparently.
What would worry me is the famous unreliability of Land rover who seem to appear at the bottom of all reliability charts. I can believe the same for Citroen.
In fact everything seems to be sending me to the galaxy or the sharan. 4 wheeled lumps of plastic but I want something more.

Merc E500? Quick but not with the expensive supercharger and AMG brakes. Consumables are similar to any 2005ish E-class.

Honda FRV. Medium sized car, 6 seats, can put 3 kids seats in the back, big boot. We like ours a lot for family duties in city or into Europe from the north of Ireland.

E class estate comes with a seven seat option. I don't know if you can fit a kiddy seat to the rears, and they're probably only for occasional use.

E500 wagon is all the family car anyone could want, and subtle with it. Depreciation and fuelling costs are not insignificant.

Budget might help narrow it down too.
