Let me start by saying I know the two cars are somewhat different and I fully appreciate both for their own traits.

A year or two ago I bought a BMW M6 (E63, the lovely V10 variant). I thought it was a fantastic car although fuel prices scared me as I was using it nearly every day for commuting, and realistically getting 13mpg on my commute was never going to be sensible. I sold it and bought a 370Z as I thought it was a good balance of performance, fun, and everydayishness (if that's a word). I've had my Z for over a year now and I'm considering getting something else, and a lot of me really wants that phenomenal V10 back in my life.

Other cars I've been considering are an R34 Skyline GT-R (this was the car that got me into cars back in 2002 and I want one badly, but I can't really justify the halo prices these command to my sensible head), a V8 Vantage (I'm unsure as I've never passengered in, let alone driven one), or even a lairy Evo (didn't like my old Evo but I'm prepared to give a new one a go). If I throw some shares into the mix then I'm perhaps looking at (R35) GT-Rs or GranTurismos.

The open-ended question I'd like to pitch to you lovely chappies is, if you had a choice between re-visiting an M6 that you'd had, enjoyed, sold and now miss (like nearly ever car I've ever owned...), or keeping hold of your 370Z that you love to bits but are starting to get a bit bored with, what would you do?

Feel free to throw any other suggestions at me, the car would be a firm weekend-only car so I'm not bothered about practicality or seats or whatever - the only thing I'd like is if it came with cruise control, but that's not a deal breaker.

Cheers beer

That was easy smile

More fun and excitement than the M6, while running cost being much closer to 370Z

What's your budget then? 25-30k?
Is fuel not as much of an issue as it was when you got rid of the M6? If you love a V10, consider the RS6 V10 maybe.
You'd see 20mpg from a nice 997 C2S on the commute.
How do you feel about the fast saloon options? C63, M3 etc

If it were my money and I was only buying the one car to use every day, I'd probably opt for a mint M3 (although proceeding comments may well call that a conservative and unexciting choice).

My M6 is up for sale at the moment. Warrantied till the end of November 2015.

I'm also giving a clutch and flywheel away with it too....you know....for when it does need replacing one day. That alone is worth over £1000 and the warranty is worth its weight in gold.

Epic and mental performance. 2nd and 3rd gear and 4000rpm plus and you can demolish any idiot boy racer who dares to have a go.

I know it sounds like I'm comparing Bolton with downtown Los Angeles, but I'm quite finicky on how cars are to live with. As an example, the 911 is known as an everyday sports car - I found it nothing of the sort. It went wrong a little too often and going wrong threw big bills at me, plus the little things like the step in the "boot" (even in a RWD version), the way the mirrors didn't fold all the way in and had a manual catch you had to set to lock them in the folded position, and the rear parcel shelf that would block your view if anything bigger than a shoebox was placed on it, meant I didn't really gel with my 997. I love the V8V as a prospective car but I don't want one if I'll ruin the image I've got built up in my head for them - I don't want to get one and realise that it doesn't feel fast or the sound is muted in the car etc etc. Any advice gratefully received smile

Egads. Do want. Just a shame it's left-hand drive, I have to buzz in to the office occasionally which rules out LHD cars. frown

You're pretty much bang on with the budget, I might be able to stretch to mid-30s but realistically I'm within your figures.

Fuel isn't so much of an issue now as I have a daily drive to get to work and back, in fact I actually use my daily most of the time and the 370Z ventures out on the odd weekend or road trip. While I wouldn't buy a top fuel dragster, fuel has indeed become less of a concern now I've got a good daily driver - and the cheaper fuel prices only add to my mental urge for something new!

I used to have a 997 C2S and was left underwhelmed by the car. I made sure I bought a nice example from a reputable Bentley dealer, but the amount of stuff that went wrong with the car, including the cottage cheese engine, has put me off newer 911s for the time being.

I was strongly considering the V10 RS6, although I'd prefer an estate version and I don't really have space for an estate on my drive, what with my bicycle and project Mini in the garage that I need to open up consistently.

I had an E46 M3 that I absolutely adored, I want another one of those but I'm not willing to part with my 370Z to get another M3 - I don't want a CSL as I would rather buy a decent M3 for £12k and spend £3k on the airbox to get the same sound (and have the creature comforts), and I'm not convinced by the E9x M3 given the big security issue with the OBD port.

Which warranty does it have? I'll be tax-free from my shares in June so I'll be looking at cars then - but obviously I have to sell my 370Z first (unless you want one!). Pop a link on here so I can have a look - and more importantly, others who are after an M6 can have a look too. Can't be advertising if the OP requests a link.

A colleague of mine had a Z4MC and, in all honesty, I preferred my E46 M3. Same engine, I had rear seats and a big boot, and I actually preferred the driving position of the M3. It felt more usable than a coupé where your legs were out straight in front of you.

Full BMW AUC warranty and it can be renewed too if you do it before 30th November also.

I have had around £5000 of work done to it under warranty.

New discs, pads, 3 new tyres etc all by BMW with reciepts totalling £4000.

Not allowed to post links up bro but if you go on Ebay and type in 'BMW M6 V10 warranty' mine is the silverstone one that comes up with the green hilly background.

Supercharger - it's a bit pricey for me. Especially as it's not a screamer - if I was going to FI my Z, I'd get a turbocharger. That said, I don't want to spend that kind of money on the car when realistically I could get a GT-R for not much more than that outlay.

That's a really good price. If you still have it for sale towards June then you have a definitely interested buyer (although, must say, on that rear 3/4 shot, what's the orange square for?). I get my tax-free shares out then and I've earmarked a certain amount for a new car purchase - can't stretch to a new car now, besides I've just had my Z remapped so I'd like to get to use it on track before I shift it! Best of luck in the interim, if you do sell it then that's that.

I covered the M3 above, must say I'm not a fan of the Evora (I think it's a brilliant car, but I just wouldn't own one), a C63 would be lovely, and the 'stang falls into the LHD trap. Before you mention the new one, a friend of mine ordered one and estimated delivery was the end of 2016!

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned a T350C. Would love a TVR although the ones I've been in seem to cater for taller individuals, as a 5'6" manlet I'm somewhat limited in height!

Audi S6 or S8 with the 5.2 v10 engine? I've just bought a leggy S6 Avant. A sorted S8 from an Audi dealer would be in budget and leave you enough for a Milltek non res exhaust. Fixed priced servicing is £189 for a minor and £365 for a major.

The 'orange square' was my piss poor attempt at photoshopping my number plate out and accidently pasting a little segment onto the bodywork biggrin

My insurance runs out in June and I dont think i will be renewing it as I should have an F10 M5 by then.
