Cars you should want, but don't
Discussion
It feels like the world wants me to buy an E46 M3.
On paper they seem neigh on perfect for me. A modern, more restrained (in the sense the exhaust won't set off car alarms) replacement for my Soarer. Practical enough that I can justify it being my only car, but exciting enough to justify owning it full stop since I very rarely get to drive my own car.
I've completely flipped situations since my last project car where I had all the time and enthusiasm in the world, but was broke. Now I find myself with the spare cash to pick up a couple of bits here and there for my car, but 60 hour weeks hence I've gotten very little done to my current car. I want something to enjoy, something 'easy' and a M3 is definition of that. I'd just need to buy tyres, suspension, brakes and breathing mods to have a car a very capable car that can do everything I want and need and more.
Even my mum commented on a E46 M3 that was at the local Tesco, asking about the flared arches, if it was a new model and that it looked really nice. I've never heard her praising ANY cars that I've been interested in like that.
And yet, I don't really want one, and I don't know why. I guess I think they're be a bit... Boring. And yet I say this in the full knowledge that I'm no where nearly a good drive to get close to what a M3 is capable of.
Strange, isn't it?

I sympathise. I don't want one (an M3*) for the exact same reason I don't want an iPhone, no more and no less than a contrarian refusal to accept the received (and perfectly sane) wisdom saying how great they are. I don't want to be a "me too", even though there's no reason not to.

Any current Ferrari
Yep. They are, by all accounts, phenomenal things to drive. But a lot of them are ugly (and I'll stick my head above the parapet and say the Ferrari La Ferrari fell out of the uppermost reaches of the ugly tree, hit every branch on the way down, and then, whilst it lay wheezing on the ground, was given a good going over by a heartless gang wielding ugly sticks), and the brand now has the whiff of the lottery winner/footballer about it. Which is a shame. And another thing (!) - after the Enzo, and the Ferrari TheFerrari, what are they going to call the next "special" Ferrari? - F40, F50 was easy nomenclature - one fears they have left themselves with nowhere to go on nomenclature for the next "ultimate" Ferrari.

R8 - Something pretty close to a supercar that has all the class of a Wetherspoons pub.
Interesting.... I've always thought the R8 understated. Each to their own
Understated to the extent of looking like a fat TT. Which automatically means the driver will not be feted for his taste in going for the less obvious choice, but derided as a powerfully built hair product enthusiast.
