Thinking of taking the Mrs there in a month or two. They're not too busy, which is something of a mixed blessing- too much choice.
Has anyone stayed there ? I'm confused about whether to stay in the main building, out house, superior room junior suite etc etc. Any advice greatly appreciated as I really don't want to waste the 700 odd quid it's going to cost !!!

I stayed there for a weekend a couple of years back. I was doing their fish preparation course in the cookery school though.

Beautiful place and the service was outstanding.

There was a problem with our meal that we didn't even know about (the head waiter came over and apologised, we were sat there looking confused). Anyway, next day, the head chef stopped me in the kitchen and apologised in front of the whole cookery class and offered a free meal and overnight stay as compensation.

All that and we didn't even complain. It was something to do with a sauce on one of the 7 courses. It was described as a vegetarian dish on the menu but they made the sauce with chicken stock by mistake. They'd spotted it before it even reached the table. The apology was for having to make it again from scratch.

Now THAT is service.

Not stayed there but eaten there on a few occasions.

You wont be disappointed, its a magnificent place...

They even provide chauffers with a voucher for a meal and a pint at the local pub so they dont hang around outside making the approach look messy.

Highly recommended.

Used to live close by. The problem we found was you get tiny weeny portions of food. One meal resulted in fish and chips all round afterwoods (how chavtastic).

Love the area too

I stayed in the 'roof suite'. Its the top window in the middle as you walk toward the building, it has a small balcony and it a fantastic place to eat breakfast while you flash the people walking up the drive when the wind catches your dressing gown.

Highly recommended, although you're doing well if you walk out of that place will a bill for the weekend of only £700.

another fantastic place of the same quality to try is gidleigh park in devon...the hotel is very relaxed - the staff are very welcoming..just simply stunning grounds with putting greens and bowling lawns (roads are fantastic around there too ) The head chef, michael caines trained with raymond blanc and the food is fantastic (2 michelin stars)...try the taster menu which if i recall was about 10 courses!

Absolutely no respect for his staff at all. My mate Huw as a graduate went in there as a "nigger" to do a prestigious "shoe shine" for his highness, Monsieur Blanc. The man is a grade a , which is par for the course. Although it was a part of the deal, My man Huws contract worked out at about 70p/Hr. Disgusting indeed, although I hear the food is very nice. IIRC, prices start at £150 and for that you get 7 courses of oral delight and leave the establishment hungry. Food art at it's highest form.

Seriously, with a report like I hear about how he runs his ship, I wouldn't give the man £1 if he was begging.
