I'm changing my car in the next week or so, most of what i have my eye on are a fair distance away. Now there used to be a time where insurance can be done quickly over the phone and the tax could already be on the car or sorted via the dealer or previous owner prior to purchase.
Now if i go see a car and its available to take straight away as its uneconomical for me to return days later to collect, whats the chances of me being able to tax the car online within an hour of phoning the insurance company?
I dont want to be making more than one 300+ miles round trip due to time constraints...

They can make more money by letting you tax your car without insurance and catching you a little later?

This way, they get the tax money AND the fine!

Brilliant!

Depends on situation with insurance at post office. Got V5 and MOT, if PO can access insurance details, then you can do it at PO. BUT- it's something to think about. WHEN does VED lapse for record purposes. At time of sale or when DVLA data input bloke gets V5 and checks it's not taxed and logs it onto computer and possibly police network as not taxed ? if ANPR sees vehicle as taxed ( as it's not officially changed hands, as DVLA have not received paperwork), then it's highly likely that ANPR computer says all is well . Perhaps someone in the know might comment.
This one sounds just like an act of the comedy duo, Tiny Blur & Gorbo Brawn ,rather than Dave the dense and his DempPrat mates. It's another shining example of making tax evasion a major crime.

Insurance is no longer checked when tax is being purchased, be it online or at a Post Office.

I bought my X3 at a dealer last week and we had taxed it in about 30 seconds online. I did not call my insurance for about an hour later.

Answer ,then - if it needs a Mot ,and you get Cert, go to PO with MOT and buyer section of V5. TAX. KEEP RECEIPT in case of DVLA doing what DVLA does best- anything but what they should do .
