So I bought a new car today, a 2007 Audi A8L, less than 10k but it looks like it's worth a lot more. I drove it back and twice in the space of an hour I had the wierdest behaviour from other motorists. First one giving me the finger when I overtook him on the carriageway, can't say that bothered me. Second was a guy who cut me up, didn't react, just ignored him. 2 minutes later after he had got caught up in the wrong lane I get him sticking his finger up ranting and raving. Now I've driven like and idiot many times in my younger life but I can't be arsed anymore. Are people jealous or are the roads just full of messed up people?

Maybe the previous owner was a notorious local ?

Can't see that inducing rage otherwise to be honest.

You sure it didn't come with someone in the back seat?

Wear a peaked cap when driving. Any passengers should go in the back. Any bodies should go in the boot. HTH.

Pombus knob head, if I see your car, I'm going to key it because it means your earning more money than me and you can afford to repair it.

Fancy sharing some pictures? The A8 is a very nice car, always had a bit of a soft spot for them from watching Ronin.

Second A8, both 4.2 TDI, first one has 220k miles on it and the wife has that now, still goes like new. This is a year newer and 150k on the clock. I has HaylingJags old XJR before this, much faster but the fuel was just too much as a daily frive.

Keep seeing a 56 plate 4.2 tdi A8 near me. Looks a great understated car.

They're awesome cars, I've never bought two of the same car before. They're never going to win against a proper performance car but they can get some serious pace in all weathers with the 4WD.

You've got me looking in the classifieds now. That's a hell of a lot of car for the money.

Only thing that would put me off, is that if something goes bang, I can imagine it being very expensive to put right.

Do the 2004 3.0 TDIs and 4.2 TDIs have DPFs?

The 4.2's are the most reliable by far, pretty much a sealed unit. More smaller items. Both rear lights have cracked, about £300 to replace. New electronic parking brake on the left at £200. Service is just over £200, you can do them every 20k with long life oil but I stick to 10kish. The new one is mint, nothing to spend, ex chauffeur car all it's life, must have been valeted every week.

They do have DPF but never had an issue, you can blank them off I believe.

Maybe they are jealous of your car being able to define gravity and drive on its side? wink

Just wait until your work colleagues/neighbours see it.
There seems to be a trend in Britain now, that if someone has a nicer car than you they're "flashy pricks" or "earn too much." Even though their 64 plate fiesta probably cost to buy.

I personally don't understand it. If I see someone with a nice car, I just admire the car and think "good on him."

It does seem to be like that, I used to get it all the time when I had one of the first 135i's, they'd be spitting venom if you overtook them. Suppose it just shows how unhappy people are trying to be kind.
