Hi folks. My wife is due to give her company car back in a couple of months, so is on the hunt for a replacement.

Her budget is about £20k
She drives around 10k miles p.a (mostly A roads and town)
She needs a 2+2 as a minimum
She needs something pretty reliable

We thought about ditching the 2+2 requirement and looking at Boxsters / Caymans / Z4MC etc, but really do need the back seats.

So far, she is quite taken by either a 997 c2 or a Jaguar XK. The Porsche would be around 2004 / 2005 car, whereas the Jag would be around 2007 / 2008 for the same budget.

I have a 6 Series, which has ample space for us and our lad, so the rear seats in hers need to be only for occasional use.

Are there any other suggestions from the PH collective that may fit the bill?

Good call on the BRZ. we saw a GT86 pre-launch and she quite liked it. However, dare I say it's a little dull.

Sadly, she doesn't like the 1 series - considers them too "dumpy" looking, which is a shame, as that was at the top of my list.

I couldnt suggest a Leon - she'd think I've gone mad!!

She's quite into reasonably quick cars, having previously owned:

  • Escort RS Turbo (in the early '90's)
  • Jag XJS v12
  • Audi S3 (first generation)
  • TVR Taimar
  • Subaru WRX (blob eye)
  • Audi S4 Avant

well imho the Leon SC looks better than the 3 door A3. Maybe not inside but certainly outside.
Who cares what badge is on it?

I've just moved out of an E350, my interior was exactly the same as that one, I think I'd want something a bit more special if I was laying down £20k in one go (mine was leased) and that S5 actually looks nice!

I don't mind an E coupe the interior isn't as special as the CL but most cars interiors don't feel that special these days the only reason I haven't bought one is down to the fact my CLK63 keeps me smiling and they don't do an AMG E Coupe also now I've decided to sell the Maser a CL63 Bi Turbo will be taking it's place.

The Audi is nice

I like the E500 coupe idea. We used to have a CLK500, which was a fantastic blend of pace and anonymity. She thinks Mercs are "old man" cars, though frown

The S5 is a very good call, as she enjoyed her B6 S4. I'll mention it to her this evening

Whilst mentioning the audi, how about a convertible for her? That way you have the coupe for yourself and something different for the wife?
