Hi All,

So i have had my beloved Vantage V8 for about 4 years now. Over that time I have done about 15k miles, mixed between inner city and longer country trips. Over the course of that time, I have 'acquired' a number of scuffs, small-medium sized scratches and the odd chip spread all accross the paintwork. I would consider myself a good driver that has just accumulated some wear-and-tear! There is one area (passenger wing) that had some more extensive scuffing where i may well have brushed up against something.

Anyway, my question is - is there anything i could do to refresh the paint short of getting a full respray done? I have been for detailing in the past and the issues are not resolved by polishing. If it is a respray that i need, any recommendations on places accessible to London/the South east and any ideas on pricing?

Thanks!

Steve

No idea on pricing, but talk to Tim at Trinity Engineering in Cobham, they do bare chassis restorations of AM's and will have a good idea of what you'll need to do to restore your car back to "fresh". smile

AMV8 or V8V?

The age of the car might effect the cost of a respray.

Black shows up marks much more than most other colours.

You'll be surprised how much can be polished out by a good detailer.

Obviously there is limits to how much can be polished out, but worth looking into before going to paint.

Agreed on the detailer - a good deep machine polish 'may' do the trick - Paddy is the man to speak to on here as I've heard great things about him and will be recommended by many.

Otherwise, give AV Classic Cars a call near Aylesbury, they did some paint work on my DB9 which was both far superior to the work AM did, and was half their quoted price.

You're more than welcome to view my car for 'research' if it helps.

A good detailer doing a wet sand and polish can achieve amazing results, not many are prepared to go to that length though.
Not sure if our resident expert Paddy offers the service or not, if not try talking to someone someone like KDS Keltec who definitely do.

On the detailing, would that work even on scratches/scuffs/chips where black exterior paint has come off and there is white visible?

Could be made a lot less noticeable by touching in these areas, then flatting back & polishing at a later date unless the Detailer has heat lamps to speed up the process.

Just do a search on YouTube and many examples will show up.

I'm in the same boat, black 07 could do with a refresh and has a bit of corrosion on the bonnet. Rather then go through the hell of dealing with AM and their totally inept 'authorised' bodyshop, I've been recommended these guys. http://avclassiccarsltd.co.uk/ I'll visit them in the summer.
