I do like that colour, but the reality is that it will be a resale nightmare IMHO.

This may not be so bad if the car is a good price in first place, and if you were going to keep for quite a while.

I find the whole Porsche colour thing very frustrating actually, everyone goes for the safe colours due to resale values, which you can understand on cars of this price, but i'm sure you would see anything but the normal silver, black and blue etc, if this wasn't the case.

Glenn,

this is what worries me.

I have a silver 996 C4S and fancy a TT. Don't want another silver one and my second choice, black, will be a nightmare to keep clean.

Have spotted the Orient one at an OPC and am tempted.

How much do you think the colour would impact any future tade-in, a couple of grand, five grand.???

If it's this one I personally wouldn't worry about resale values as I think it's a stunning colour

AC79xxx,

yes, that's the one.

Currently in negotiation but just have a nagging doubt about the colour.

I also think it looks great, and you don't see very many, but worried about being shafted (even worse than usual) come trade in time.

Go for it - I reckon it's a gorgeous colour! Too many silvers around for my liking. I had an Elise and a Cerbera in very similar colours to Orient and I think it really suits a sports car without being too flashy - pure class.

It appears to be listed £7/8k lower than a similar lapis blue car in terms of spec, age and miles so that gives an indication as to what the maket devalues it by.

All you need to remember when you come to sell it on is to reduce the asking price by the same margin.

I remember a dealer once referrering to that as "Death Red" in terms of resale...

That looks gorgeous, no doubt about it !!!!!

Thing is, come trade in time the OPC will definately
give the old intake of breath and shake the head scenario and take the P**s on the price.

I'll give you a resale nightmare, I bought my turbo cab in August last year for £104k, got a price from Edinburgh OPC yesterday for trade in............... £75k

That's nearly £30k in 5 months !!!!

Think i'll keep it for the mo'

Looks good, but I wouldn't buy it.
I nearly bought a C2 in the same red, but jibed out to due the same concerns as you. I remember thinking of the colour 'Lip stick red' every time I saw the C2 in Orient. Porsche's aren't that easy to sell, why make it harder with a colour which some will not consider.

Looks like arena red - buy it!

Buy something YOU like. When I took my dick to a porsche spray shop, out of about 60 cars, mine was the only one that wasn't silver, blue or black!

There's nothing to say that in five years time silver WON'T be the most common colour and maybe red will make a 'fasionable' come back?

The "kiss of death" red metallics must the darker ones, that is stunning!

Hmmm - I think the guards red or the yellow TT's are fantastic and a real statement but this one seems a bit "old hat". By the way, talking of colours I had a neighbour in Hamburg who got a Ferrari 456 in military green - only the stallion on the wheels was yellow - now that's what I call daring but everyone in hamburg new the car!!!!!!!

possibly a naive view, but I strongly feel that worrying about residuals and such when considering buying a porsche is a hollow debate - who knows what will happen in the future? another stock market crash and your 996 will shed value, no matter what the colour. Yes of course investment is important. but private punters will always lose money on car sales. The questions are, is the price worth it to you, and do YOU like the colour. If yes, and the car is up to your spec, purchase and enjoy thoroughly.

I think it looks absolutely fantastic. unfortunately Ive not enough money to buy it off you if you go off the colour however!

Thanks for everyone's feedback - a good mix of views with the general consensus being largely positive.

Totally agree that I should buy the car if I like the colour. I did, however, want to avoid at least one the OPC negotiating tactics (ie it's not a popular colour) when trading in.

Let's see if the salesman comes back with the right deal.

Thanks again.

Good old 'depreciation proof' Porsches. Thought my X5 drop was bad, but a grand a month seems leisurely now.

Look at it this way, imagine if someone offered you a 5 month old turbo cab for 75K?

You've just made a loss, but bagged yourself a bargain in the same deal. Keep it, have a beer, think of the summer, and smile.
