Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (PC/Steam)
Discussion
Hi Guys/Girls!
Any love for Counter Strike: Global Offensive here on PH? It’s made a pretty big comeback as a round-based tactical FPS on PC of late with over 5 million individual players.
I’ve played CS in its many forms on and off for years, but have really gotten into CS:GO recently. There’s loads of new features including ranked match making, weapon skins and professional tournaments.
The match-making “competitive” 5vs5 mode can be a bit pants if you’re playing on your own like. Normally you get 3 people without mics and one Russian who won’t shut up which hampers the teamplay massively obviously
. So I was wondering if anyone on here played it? Or was interested in getting a group of players together...
It’s currently £11.99 on steam: http://store.steampowered.com/app/730/
HLTV.org has loads on the professional competitive side of things for those interested http://www.hltv.org/

It says that my PC can run it, but I'm concerned that I'm toward the lower half of the 'recommended minimum requirements' as my friend built this PC about 5 years ago.
If I posted up the specs on here perhaps you could give me some reassurance? As I so very nearly bought it over Christmas.
I currently play 'Insurgency' which is a kind of hardcore version of Call of Duty, no mini-maps, no HUD, no targetting etc. You also haev to try to remember how many bullets you still have left. It's great, but not without its' pitfalls. I'm looking for something a bit faster-paced for when I've not got 30 minutes to complete a single mission peeping around every corner - I think Counter Strike could fit the bill...

If you can play Insurgency you'll likely be able to play CS:GO. If I posted up the specs on here perhaps you could give me some reassurance? As I so very nearly bought it over Christmas.

My graphics card is about 4 years old and was only midrange back then and I can play it just fine.
ETA: Post your specs and I am sure someone will be able to confirm for you.

Graphics card: ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series
CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6400+ 3.2 GHz
RAM: 8.2GB
Is that all that is required? It has loads of storage space left (1.8TB)
They are the important details, the honest answer would be that I am not sure but so long as you reach the minimum requirements you should be able to play it although this would certainly be at lower graphics settings.CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6400+ 3.2 GHz

I recently bought this - £5.99
I'm not sure what the fuss is about, it seems a bit...pooh?
There isn't much skill involved. It seems to favour the trigger-happy. Oh, and the lack of being able to aim-down-sites makes it feel really arcade-y.
Maybe I'm not playing it right, but I'm not enjoying it so far...

like all games that introduced ranked lobbies, it's just a cess pool. Used to enjoy finding a good server that the same guys n girls would play on =<1.6. The days of "wana join our clan mate". Same with DoD.
I stick to gun game and deathmatch on CS nowerdays, when I can be arsed playing.

Tried CS:Go and didn't like it, it's been dumbed down to appeal to BF/COD players and certainly isn't as hardcore or rewarding as CS or even Source.
I was clanned back in the day and with a Steam ID in the 300,000 range, I started playing back in the Beta days.
Used to play a ton of DM on fy_twotowers map, to sharpen my AWP skills.
Happy days.

Played 1.6 and ran a clan playing css. Nowadays I just watch all of the ESL (professional) matches on youtube or twitch over lunchtime.
I find it hard to enjoy any public play after being part of a co-ordinated clan.
Great to watch the pros in action though!
Cheers
