How do the ride hights compare between the GT4 & GTS in PASM
Discussion
I originally had my thoughts on a ordering a GTS, with PASM, however since the announcement of the GT4 I am swaying towards GT4 as for its value for money, involvement etc, in fact with the chosen optional extras I had originally chosen for the GTS the GT4 is coming out cheaper! I think the GT4 will be that bit more special than the GTS and a few years on the GT4 will hold its value better due to the base price being higher.
However the ride quality on the GT4 is the only issue that concerns me for our UK roads to me honest. I only do about 6 track events a year the Cayman will effectually be a weekend car as we go in the wife’s car as a family.
I’ve read that it will be doubtful that there will be a GT4 demonstrator for some considerable time if at all, due to demand being expected to be large. So if I was to order a GT4 I will be buying it without even testing it and that’s a bit scary.
Reading the spec between the two the GT4 is 18 mm lower than the GTS, however the GT4 drops 30mm between the ‘Normal’ and ‘Sport’ PASM setting. However for the GTS it appears to only drop 10mm between ‘Normal’ and ‘Sport’. Is this right?
So the GTS without PASM (Sports suspension) is only 2mm lower than the GT4 in 'Normal' PASM mode, is this right?

There is no such thing as "PASM" mode. Sport mode of PASM affects the damper stiffness - not the ride height. The GTS with PASM is 10mm lower than the standard Cayman, GTS with Sports Suspension is 20mm lower than the standard Cayman and the GT4 is 30mm lower. ie the GT4 is 10mm lower than the GTS with Sports Suspension. 20mm lower than the GTS with PASM.However the ride quality on the GT4 is the only issue that concerns me for our UK roads to me honest. Thank for the clarification bcr5784, so with the GT4 in 'Normal' PASM setting the ride quality may be halfway between 'Normal' and 'Sport' on the GTS with PASM?
Ride quality is a dark art dependent on a symbiosis between damper settings, spring stiffness and various other bits. Ride height on its own is essentially irrelevant. A harder-riding car may still come across as more comfortable than softer equivalents if it deals with road undulations in a single motion. Furthermore, there is a subjective dimension. If it's of paramount importance to you, there is no way of knowing other than a test drive.

Others have commented correctly on the ride heights...Basically, PASM only adjusts the valving in the damper, giving 2 different rates of bump and rebound, or stiffness. The 2 settings in the GT4 will both be stiffer than the 2 settings in the GTS. The main springs are also stiffer on the GT4, giving less body movement, and a stiffer ride. However the ride quality on the GT4 is the only issue that concerns me for our UK roads to me honest. From my own ownership experience of a 991 C2S and a 991 GT3 - while the GT3 is stiffer, I way prefer its ride quality both when I'm pushing on, and when I'm just driving sedately. It never feels harsh, but always feels special.
I hope you manage to get a GT4 allocation...!
