Part Exchange 996 Wheels?
Discussion
I've just bought my first 996, an early 3.4 Carrera 4. Lovely car with great history but I'm not a huge fan of the wheels, it has come on some 19" RUF ones which aren't really my style.
Two questions:
1) Any idea how to value them? There's a set on eBay at the moment for £1,500 but they've not been bought so no idea if the price is nonsense. Can't see any sold ones
2) is there anywhere that part exchanges wheels? I'd like to swap them out for some OEM wheels with decent tyres and least hassle would be an exchange, rather than have to buy another set and then sell the first ones.
Course, I reserve the right to change my mind about the wheels, they do look quite cool...

Do you want 19s or 18s?Two questions:

18s are ten a penny, and the car also matches well with some of the 17s (especially the 10-spokes) so if I were you I'd buy some 2nd hand 18s and put on the tyres of your choice.
Here is your OE wheel bible:

If you change your mind about the RUFs you can just swop them over. Or put them up for sale later - easy to p&p these days.

That's a great link, not seen it before, thank you. Erring towards the 5 spokes, the 18" 'Carrera 2' ones I suspect but not ruling out the 10 spokes either. I'm not a huge fan of massive wheels so the 17" may well work, I just think the 19" RUF ones are a bit too big.18s are ten a penny, and the car also matches well with some of the 17s (especially the 10-spokes) so if I were you I'd buy some 2nd hand 18s and put on the tyres of your choice.

A friend of mine had a 996.2 with the 10-spoke 17s - they have the illusion of looking bigger than 17 somehow, and of course are much lighter than most 18s.... so if you are a 'driver' you may well prefer them.
If you mean the Carrera (BBS) wheels at the top of that list of 18s, I have those and think they look superb in the metal, and happen to be one of the lightest OEM wheels (they are also called MY02 wheels).
IMO If you exchange, you'll lose out - and if you exchange 19->18 you'll lose out twice, as you'll be giving your 19" tyres away!
If you've got anywhere to store the 19s, I would. Good luck.
ps watch out for Boxster-sized versions of any OE wheels - the 996.1 had 7.5Jx18 fronts, and 10Jx18 rears - the 986.1 had 9Jx18 rears.... but they're interchangeable in real life.
The 17s for the 996.1 were 7J front and 9J rear (Boxster 986 17 rears were 9J or 8.5J)
EFA as I had about a million typos!

I have a set of genuine 10 spoke Carrera 4 wheels, just sold the tyres off them (removing them today) which I'd consider doing a deal with.
There's a picture of one of the fronts in this listing I sold the tyres in:
