I'm looking at buying an Audi A4 from an independant dealer but have came across something potentially unusual. The car was listed as an automatic but the dealer pictures clearly showed a manual. Thinking it could have been an error in the listing, I popped the reg number in to an insurance site which confirmed that is registered as an automatic.

The car is only about 10 miles away so I popped through before work this morning and it is indeed a manual. Asked the salesman and he couldn't explain why the discrepancy.

Any ideas how I can confirm what the true identity of the car is?

Maybe incorrectly registered initially - dealer listing software will probably use the same lookup database as insurance sites. I doubt a dealer is going to double check every piece of info on the listing.

You can find a few mistakes on the PH listings.

Just got off the phone to Audi UK customer services. They've confirmed they have the car registered as a manual, so at least the car seems genuine. Any idea if this will cause an issue with insurance? Or is it a simple case of them changing the information they hold on their database?

Just fill the details in manually rather than using the reg lookup.

You'll probably need a letter from Audi to send to DVLA if their records are incorrect.
