Need to replace the M135i with something with 5drs and a bit more space, so stumbled upon the SQ5.
Took one for a spin today - what an awesome motor. Had plenty of go for a tank and dare I say it felt more composed in the bends than the M135i. (Less feedback obviously, but each corner felt propped up better!)
Interior was nice, looks awesome and the MPG is a bonus - plus don't let me forget that exhaust!! The rumble from the resonator is ridiculous...
Soooo.....numbers. The residuals are rock solid with a new car retaining well over 50% over 36months. However my dealer would not budge on price. He had a new high spec stock car optioned up to £55k and the most he'd drop was £1250!!!!
It probably didn't help that my Mrs was obviously in love with the car - but on a serious note what sort of discount do you think I should be aiming for? Ive been able to achieve a good 10-15% on a new BMW before, so I'm at least looking for something...
Cheers...

About 10% off new price from brokers. Check out the usual suspects. (Or carwow if you don't fancy the broker route) - But of course you're then into waiting for it - 12 week, I guess?
Pretty damn sure your '50% residuals' won't apply to the 10K worth of options on that particular car...
Much better discounts on S4 Avants available, though. Around 14% discount plus 2.5K finance contributions...

I bought one for Mrs Blue last year, she loves it (so do I). From memory our car listed at around £52k and I got 11% off by financing it with Audi on a PCP. The first dealer I spoke to (Stafford) wouldn't give me anything but I shopped around and used Carwow and Drive the Deal to establish what sort of discount was realistic. I reckon you should easily be able to match what I achieved.
It's a very good all rounder with amazing grunt, I really struggled to shake one off the other day in my 991S.

Thanks, exactly the sort of thing I was after. I think my dealer is playing hard ball as we obviously really liked the car, so I will see what this Carwow thing comes back with. If I can get something along the lines of 10% off Id more than happy to look at the numbers properly. Performance - I dont doubt you. I wouldn't be able to see one off in the M135i, thats for sure. As for the other replies....
55k car - yes I understand (although this is much higher spec than I would choose myself, my specs come out at 51/52). But either way when spending 55k on a new car sat outside in the rain I would expect a little more off than a number starting with a 1. As soon as he offered the 1k and started waffling on about supply and demand I switched off and closed the conversation up.
I know I can get an S4 cheap, but I thought it was rubbish - so its off my list. I think you're better off getting a Diesel A4 over the S4 - I didn't feel it excelled in any particular area and just didn't excite me.
I think you'll find DtD more useful than Carwow, far more competitive and though I've not ordered directly through them (I used their quote as leverage with a local main dealer), I have heard good reports. Worth checking out Orangewheels and Broadspeed while you're at it, good luck and enjoy the process, it's fun shopping for cars.

Best I think I got to when looking at the SQ5 was
List £50,860 (21" wheels / B&O / Audi drive select / advanced key / tech pack etc.)
Offer £46,611
48 month PCP
5k deposit
£520 a month
Ok, thats the sort of discount I was hoping for - its also similar price/spec. I assume this is a factory build?List £50,860 (21" wheels / B&O / Audi drive select / advanced key / tech pack etc.)

I havent purchased many new cars in the past but I assume I could hope for a slightly better price for a stock car, towards the end of a month?
Plus how are you finding the car?
Fantastic things the SQ5, bought mine off broom broom , paid about 45 for it with a few extras. It was actually sourced from East Kent Audi with a c4k discount via the broker.
Really enjoy driving it, fast enough to satisfy (up to 90 leptons) and does sound great, can fit the family in no probs and will get you to Bordeaux at 45mpg.
What more would you want?
Cayenne V8S...

Glad to hear it....
Tested a spanking Cayenne Diesel S a couple weeks back and Id say I prefer the SQ5. The interior of the porker was far too fussy with about 300 buttons and switches - although the Porsche badge on the wheel did look cool.
Plus I was a little underwhelmed with the performance, was expecting the 630lb torque to feel stronger.
What do you get MPG wise in normal driving? 35?

Bought one last November and sold in August. Great car, stupendous engine - with the caveat that it's a tank.
I would not accept 55k. For me, it's not a 50k car. Ours was un-registered dealer stock with delivery mileage. Retail price of 52, we got it for 48. We could have probably achieved better via a broker but this was local and in stock. They will of course drop in value fairly swiftly but ours settled at the low forties. At 55 you have a long way to go on a soon-to-be replaced platform.

Agree with this ^. Why did you get out so soon if you don't mind me asking?I would not accept 55k. For me, it's not a 50k car. Ours was un-registered dealer stock with delivery mileage. We had the SQ5 and Disco alongside each other for a while and the difference was amusing. I love the disco - a real mixture of relative luxury and functionality. To really complete the cliche'd middle class life we lead we have chocolate lab too and it just does all the family duties so well. The SQ5 felt quite low-riding, focussed and very, very eager to fly in comparison.
It felt painful watching it being driven away but that's the way it should be.

It was meant to be the cover-all-bases family car but if the truth be told, I'd probably tipped the balance too far in my direction. She didn't really want quad exhausts (bit naff anyway) or a 300+ bhp twin turbo beast of an engine. We've bought a disco 4 for family duties and I'm getting an RS4 instead. Loved SQ5 ownership though.

That's funny, our previous family car was a D4HSE, I ran a 991S and we had a Golf GTD. We swapped the lot out for the SQ, a mini (for my oldest to learn to drive in) and an RS4 (which I think you will like a lot). The Disco was one of the best motors I have owned, amazing comfort and utility and incredible resale value, had mine for 3 years and 40,000 miles, sold it privately (on the Disco forum for free) and retained almost 70%.We had the SQ5 and Disco alongside each other for a while and the difference was amusing.
