Odin's (VT Automotive) Carpets - anyone fitted them?
Discussion
Morning all,
I've been very impressed with the catalogue Odin has produced. I could spend a lot of money with him! One thing that has caught my eye is the carpet set. They're €699 for the 80% wool carpet including VAT. That's about £520. It looks like it's something I could fit (I hope!) They do much cheaper sets, but I would like the good quality wool carpet.
I've been quoted £650 + VAT and £750 + VAT so far (so £780 and £900) from a couple of specialist trimmers to supply and fit 80% wool carpets. So it's cheaper, but not hugely so, considering I need to fit them myself.
Has anyone ordered a set? Have you been pleased with them? Are they difficult to fit? I'd like to see photos if possible.
Finally, how do the seat coverings fit? Do they just hook on underneath the seat? I'm tempted to order the seat covering set too.
Thanks,
Dan

not fitted them myself but i paid a professinal trimmer 500, 2 years back for wool carpets with hard backing. You cant compete for quality from a professional with the correct tools, I would leave it to them. The tricky parts are around the seatbelt mounts and around the door eals and trim making it look neat and not a saggy fit. Its very labour intensive. Dan, just ripping out the old carpets is hard labour, trust me by the time you've got them all out you'll wish you'd paid someone else to do it.I've been very impressed with the catalogue Odin has produced. Then the fun starts!
I paid a professional trimmer £600 to make me a set to the car using very high quality Wilton carpet.
He did the ripping out, supplied the Wilton though Martrim, hand made the carpet set, bound all the edges correctly in Doe Skin Ambla and completed all the fitting.
The whole process took two full days and was worth every single penny of the £600 I paid.
If you do choose to do the job yourself, don't forget to add the cost of adhesive and a decent set of trimmer's shears, even with a kit you'll need to do some cutting and you cant do that with your kitchen scissors.
Even when I was in restoration we outsourced all our interiors to a professional trimmer, trimming is a very specific skill that takes years to learn properly.
Even with a kit you'll be on a steep learning curve and the quality of the result will never match what someone who's been doing it every day for years can achieve.
Look at what you'll genuinely save buying the kit and sundries, and doing the fitting yourself.
I'll put money on the saving being so small recruiting a professional trimmer will soon start to look like a no-brainer.
Understand the job, admit to yourself where your experience levels are at, factor in your own time, and remember you'll need trimming shears and adhesive as a minimum.
Then call Gary Creasey at Hoods & Trims and cut a deal without the dreaded

You'll not be disappointed.
I thought it was pricey myself until I realised how much carpet is needed and how long it would take.
Here's a picture of a complete set:

Yes, I think that is probably the best way to go. I have had a quote from Gary Creasey, I'll have to go back to him and see if he'll do a deal! I want to get the roof done too.
I replaced my carpets a couple of years ago. Got a cracking deal on a set from Central TVR (via EBay) and spent a very enjoyable few days in the garage fitting them at the same time as re-colouring the leather/vinyl.
It's really not that difficult and I'm still very pleased with the results - saved a fortune which was spent on go faster, stop quicker parts

Coverdale for me piece of piss
I recovered my roof at the same time though
the door cards have since been covered in matching faux suede these pics are about 6 year old at least I took the old carpets out of mine which, as someone has already mentioned, is an absolute nightmare. I'm sure i'm still getting the fibreglass out of my hands after what seemed like endless days scraping everything down.
I cut patterns, and subsequently fit, my own carpets - which i would NOT recommend. It was SUCH a faff. They looked much better than the old carpets but for the amount i saved i always wished i'd have just paid someone to do them for me.
I think even with the full trimmed up set it's the fitting that is the hardest thing. The last thing you want after spending all that money is to get in notice bits that aren't bang on.
Take it in to DC Trimmers !!
