Hi folks, just after some advice on an MX5 for the other half.

Does anyone know whether the winter months has much of an adverse effect on prices? Anything much to look for apart from the obvious? We're thinking of a standard car; 1.8i/1.8is.

Many thanks.

There are a few MX-5 owners on here who I'm sure will offer some wise words. It would also be worth having a look at MX-5 Owners Club Forum for lots more advice.

jazzyb is selling his over at the owners club site, a 96 1.8 import, looks very tasty, £5k I think.

Thought about buying it myself but ended up getting a puma localy.

Depends what model you're looking at. The earlier cars, yes they do suffer in the winter but the newer ones not as much as you'd think. Let us know some more specifics and there's plenty of good advice here.

Phil.

Thanks everyone. Managed to do a bit of research on the MX5 owners club site and it does seem like winter makes a difference on prices (provided the vendor actually needs to sell).

We're thinking of a 98/99 Mk2 as the other half needs something cheap-ish for a first car until we sort out a new house and know where we are with cash. As we'll likely upgrade in summer I had the brain-wave that an MX5 might be fun for a few months & if we bought now we'd stand a good chance of getting our cash back if we sold early summer.

Not sure if this is a little optimistic but £5-6k does seem to go a long way at the moment...

Any views/advice appreciated. Many thanks.

we have a Mk1 Enuos (which we are selling next month ) and its been a great fun car. I doubt you'll find as much fun for the 5k. Been very reliable. I'd recommend the 1.8 and make sure the hood is in good condition goes without saying

I doubt very much that you will get a MK2 for £5k. I bought a 1998 S reg in September from a Mazda deakership and that cost me £8995 - although it is quite low milage etc....
You may be lucky, but dont get your hopes up!

Thanks but we'd be after a bog-standard car I think. In any event, it looks like insurance may stop play as the only firm to offer Sarah a decent introductory NDC don't cover convertibles.

Pity as I was looking forward to giving it a thrape every now and then...

Just placed a genuine UK supplied 94(M)1.8i in PH classifieds - with change from £3k!

That should lift the winter blues for someone seriously searching?
