Can anyone recommend a Saab specialist in the Nottingham area? Picked up a 9-5 Aero 2002, and she needs new CV joint, full service and a couple of other things.

Would you stretch to a run down to Leicester?

I don't have the contact details anymore, nor can i remember his name! But go and knock on this door:-

A real enthusiast. There ALWAYS a Saab up in the air whenever I drove passed (regularly) and he did some work on something for me before, he was great.

It's just on the side of the A50, 5 mins drive max from J22, M1

Yes if the price is right!

Need a reconditioned CV joint, not a used one etc. Want to get it done properly as wanting to remap once it's running well.

Thanks for the recommendation. Know if he's got a website or anything?

Why do you need a 'Saab specialist'? It's not as if it's a highly strung sports car with many unique and complicated components. Changing the CV joints and doing a full service on a Saab 9-5 shouldn't be any different to the same job on a Vectra for example, so just find a well-regarded local garage to do the work for you.

Nottingham Saab - used to be in Ilkeston, but it's in Bulwell now. Wes who runs it is a very nice and knowledgeable chap on all things Saab. have used them a few times and can highly recommend.

I used to drive past there a lot and often wondered why the place had so many Saabs outside!

Did you notice the house further up on the left with no roof and tree growing out of it - I always wondered what the story was there, very similar ones either side were immaculate. Looks as if it's being saved now.

Fair point, just wanted someone who is experienced with common Saab faults such as the sludging issue on cars around this age - http://www.saabcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t...

Wes at Nottingham Saab is your best bet, and yes, possibly worth getting a sump drop at the same time as they are under there anyway, as a precaution if the service history is a bit vague. Aero's are less prone to the sludging issue as they 'should' have been run on full synth oil from day one, but the pre-2204 model cars are not totally immune to it.

And this UK based Saab forum is your best bet for UK Saab related info and help.

Saabcentral was a forum to avoid 10 years ago, let alone now wink

Yep, they can check if your PCV has been upgraded, etc. A normal back street garage wouldn't know about stuff like that.
