my car.mileage+ crash info just found out+steering trouble
Discussion
hello. long story... i bought a honda jazz 09 reg in may 2013. from a dealer (not honda). we felt the car was not driving right since the first day of having it. the biting point on the clutch was high and the feel of the steering was floaty then heavy and sometimes the car without the steering wheel moving would pull itself sharply to the left. so we took the car to honda for them to have a look at after just having the car for 3 days, were they said there was nothing wrong with the car.and that we were just not use to driving a car with electric powered steering and that was just how the jazz drove.so never took the car back to the dealer as honda said there was no fault, and just thought we would get use to driving it like honda said. with several visits to honda since buying the car, and on our every visit us saying the car was not right, honda's reply has been the car is okay. in feb 2014 i had a power steering relay fault, which we had fixed by honda, they could not say why the part failed. we thought this may have now fixed the steering problem of the light/heavy steering and the pulling to the left but it did not, honda still say car was/is fine. also in april 2014 honda said my clutch was worn (which is what we thought when we bought it, but honda said it was fine.
car has full honda service history, one owner (but mobility car) only had done 16,000 when we first got it, now done 30,000. hpi check by dealer we bought from. paid £8,995.
last week the car had a honda service, i asked them to look at the lights as they were a little dim (honda have looked at the lights a few times before) but this time they told me that the lights were not original honda lights as the front of the car had been in a crash! they said they had looked the car over and it looked okay. the first thing that popped in to my head was is this why the car does no drive okay ? also we have noticed the honda alloys have different date stamps on them, one date does not match the other 3.
as the car was meant to have had a hpi check i went home and done a AA car data check, there was no record of it being a total loss or a total loss repair. but mileage from 0ct 2010 to 0ct 2012 say recorded by BVRLA ( i read that most of the time this company don't record crash info ?
also this flagged up a mileage problem.
16-oct 2012 BVRLA 14,829
30-nov 2012 manufacturer 51,200
17-jan 2013 DVLA 15,000.
may just be a typing mistake but how do i find out?
and was this information on hpi check when we bought the car? never saw the check. dealer never said, he just said hpi check was okay.(no record of the 51,000 on mot data check)
and as for the crash, no information given when the car was bought, we did ask about a small crease in the window trim and a few other marks on the car, but dealer just said "if you want a new looking car, go and pay new car prices".
i know its been a long time since buying the car but only just found this information out.
need to try and look in to the mileage, who do i talk to ?
think the dealer who is trading standard approved, miss sold us the car ?
and we still feel the car drives unsafe, who do we see about getting that looked it to ?
have already talked to vosa, they said they cant help.
any help or ideas on how to try and sort this mess out would be very appreciated. sorry it was a long story.
thank you.

It's harsh but I don't think the dealer is at fault. Sounds like the warning signs were there and perhaps you should have heeded them, especially creases in the bodywork.
Chances are the dealer knew or suspected a chequered past but he's allowed to sell it on and from what you've said he hasn't lied to you.
Just trade it in somewhere and buy better in future.

OK, so it was a relatively minor collision, and the car was repaired not written off.devondumpling said:

British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association. So it was a lease car - but you already knew that, because it was Motability.devondumpling said:

Seems a fairly obvious transposition typo, 51 instead of 15 (unless you think somebody really did 36,500 miles in six weeks?*), then a mild rounding-down on the Jan figure. "How many miles on that Jazz, Dave?" "About 15k, I think. Want me to check?" "Nah, that's good enough" <tippitytappity>...16-oct 2012 BVRLA 14,829

It's now a five-to-six year old car that you've owned for nearly two years. You've doubled the mileage in that time. You've had the steering checked several times by Honda dealers, and they've reported no fault found. What are the odds that a different garage will find something different? Even if they do, after this kind of interval, you stand no chance whatsoever of getting any recompense. If you still don't get on with it or trust it, sell it and buy something else. WBAC is that way ->- 36,371 miles in 46 days, 790 miles per day, 33mph average every single hour 24/7... In a Honda Jazz. I think we've discovered Dante's tenth circle...

OP - you will go mad trying to figure this one out. Just get rid and buy another.
Agree. Life is too short to get embroiled in this with a dealer from years ago. You probably won't get anything other than stress in persuing it.Lesson learned, part exchange it, time for a new car.
