Hi All,

I have an 07 997.1 Turbo, at around 80,000 miles (and just about to be serviced). I'm trying to decide whether to get a 1 or 2 year Porsche extended warranty - with a possible view to selling the car in around six months time.

It's also booked in to be detailed by Kelly (KDS) at the end of March - and so should be very pretty. Losing it will be a real wrench - however I need a more family friendly car frown

Anyway - is all this expenditure likely to make sense - both from the points of view of selling price, as well as ease of selling?

TIA,
H.

I would definitely look favourably upon a car that had two years Porsche warranty on it than one without, that being said my GT3 has no warrenty on it at all, but nothings gone wrong as yet so i'm up on the deal.

I think it would sell quicker with a warranty but not necessarily for more money.

I would echo Pete's comments personally. The Mezger unit is generally regarded as bullet proof but at 80k miles few things that start to go and bills could really mount up. My 06 car last year had stuff like the water pump go which is about £1k etc then you have things like the radiators, air con condensers etc (not sure if rads are covered by warranty perhaps someone will confirm).

I just sold my 997 C4S, I had the same dilemma. It was detailed the end of last year and still had 7 months of tax, mot and extended warranty left. The first guy that came to look paid the asking price as it was a beauty. I pitched the price firmly between trade in and independent dealer, got £32K. It was an 07 with full OPC history and 26K on the clock.

Hope this helps.

OPC warranty would certainly help resale prospects. I bought my latest 996T partly on the basis that it had 10 years of OPC warranty and from the inspection, it would appear that whatever needed to get done, were done, as well as tying the car to the OPC a network which for the previous owners imply a fixed costs. Less risk on buying second hand when you're not sure if repair work were delayed or postponed due to a sudden large service bill.
