Valentines Dinner

Like most sensible people I never go out on Valentines night with the o/h to get ripped off with an overpriced fixed menu and a limp rose wrapped in cling film so we are staying in and I'm cooking instead.

For starters the wife wants me to try and replicate the salt & spice squid with citrus miso dip from the Porthminster Beach Cafe. Not sure I will be able to do it justice but I'll give it a go.

I'm undecided on what to do for a main course but suspect it will be fish as well.

Anyone else cooking for this and what's the plan to try and charm the other half into the sack?

Scallops are another option. What are you going to do them with?

If one has to cook fancy food in order to get the other half into the sack, then it's surely easier to change the other half.

I get that anyway but you know what, its actually nice to treat someone once in a while with expectation. You should try it.

Was thinking scallops with chorizo to start and then duck breasts with Savoy cabbage and bacon. Do love duck - anybody have any decent recipes to pass on?

Heston pork terrine
2 x ribeye steaks
Chunky chips
Cheese cake
Chocs
Bottle of pink fizz.

Not my idea of romance, but good value (Mrs PR likes pink fizz and we both like steak) so tonight's dinner sorted then

I'll be making the scallop, black pudding and caramelised apple tower which was on Saturday Kitchen food heaven a week or two ago.Though most likely not in tower form! No idea about a main however so open for suggestions. Likely panna cotta desert.

not sure what your missus is like but i made buttermilk fried chicken for Mrs 2CV one year and she nearly cried with happiness.

We had fishfingers and chips with our daughter at 5:30, because it's nice to eat as a family. Not romantic, and I think we'll nom some home made raison bread for supper.
