I've been playing around the last couple of days with charts that show max acceleration available at any given speed for cars like the 997.1 GT3, Boxster GTS, Cayman GT4 and 993 NVR, with some fairly interesting results. Comparing the BGTS in both manual and PDK form, rather surprisingly I found that while the PDK accelrates on average harder to 60mph than the manual and does it in less time (which is one of the figures Porsche always show) and probably would do even without launch control, after 65mph, if you're revving the cars out fully, the manual on average will pull slightly harder and longer than the PDK because the gearing seems to be better suited to the engine for ultimate performance. In reality you'd probably make some of it up from the PDK's shift time, but the manual would have you most of the time excluding that. Certainly not what I was expecting!
But, all is not lost PDKers! If you look at mid range acceleration from 3k to 6k rpm (i.e. how we'd accelerate most of the time), the PDK has it much better.
I've added a 993 NVR plot as well for a bit of comparison. Note how on the mid range chart it doesn't perform half bad in comparison

OK, not scientific but empirical enough for me.
Like I said, PDK will gain a lot as manual shifts are relatively very slow. Also, what I've found it that at the limit, the exact gear ratios in relation to where the engine delivers its torque is very important.OK, not scientific but empirical enough for me.
Don't suppose anyone has the factory's Cayman R dyno chart from a handbook? If you can get me that plus what speed a Cayman R does at redline in 2nd gear I can do a plot.....
