Diablo sold - I've left the fold
Discussion
Well folks, its been an epic 12 months of Diablo ownership but it saddens me to anounce that the Diablo has gone to a new home.
She was one car I spent a lot of time searching for and I thought I'd keep her forever but price increases made it too tempting to sell - I'm sure I'll live to regret it.
I've replaced her with a Mercedes SLS AMG which is also a great motor and should be more useable for my current needs of a weekend toy.
Drive safe, Good luck & so long folks.

I don't think the SLS prices will fall. If anything, they have actually risen £20k+ over the last 6 months or so.
I actually wanted a Mclaren 12C but there is no doubt - they most certainly are depreciating!
Don't believe the advertised prices of the Diablos - Most have been on the market for a good year or so now. If those advertised prices were true, many of the cars for sale would have long sold. What people advertise for and what they are actually changing hands for is a whole different story. Sure, they have risen but not to the extent some optimistic owners appear to think.

Sorry but I don't understand - surely the point is that there are no buyers at these prices, that's why they haven't sold.......?If someone doesn't want to sell at what the market is actually prepared to pay at any particular time, that's up to them.

There are no buyers at the high advertised prices. The market and what people are actually willing to pay dictate values.
Many owners will hold onto their Diablos because long term they will appreciate. I can fully understand why people will hold onto their Diablos. They are an iconic, never to be repeated V12 supercar and the styling is about as distinctive as it gets. They're awesome and I'm proud to say I've owned one.
For those looking to sell NOW, they simply will not get the artificially high prices that SOME Diablos are advertised at.

is this issue of high prices but no sale just with Diablos or with all classic cars in general? The Diablo is a notoriously difficult car to sell.
Good question - one I can't answer. As for Diablos being hard to sell, I was told by numerous people I'd struggle to sell it privately.
Mine was probably the last one to appear in the classifides and to my knowledge, 1 or only 3 to have sold in the past year. I think the "right" car in good condition at the right price will always sell.

Don't understand all this 'why sell now' nonsense...
It's a car! Not shares FFS...
We are car fanatics not investment bankers...
I think it's the air of impending doom that we're fed on a daily basis. We are all too aware of the world market economies and we all think that every glitch that happens will leave us all penniless. I think for that reason we all like to think our assets are fluid when in reality if it did all go to ste cars wood be one of the first markets for the arse to fall out of.It's a car! I simply fancied a change if thats ok?
The SLS is also currently a safe place to put your money
I considered an SLS, given their heavy initial depreciation but subsequent levelling off. I was finally put off by the thought that the AMG GT might be a driver in people shifting from SLS to them and thus releasing more cars onto the market so depressing prices further. But maybe I'm overthinking it? After all, the SLS does have the 6.3 Natasp engine after all...and in my CLK63 it was just an awesome engine. The SLS is also currently a safe place to put your money
On Diablos, I think you're spot-on. I've watched that market and I see the same cars not selling too.

As a matter of interest, in percentage terms, how much lower is the real trading price than the asked prices?rubystone said:

I think exactly the opposite has happened. An SLS is a supercar in my view, the GT is a Porsche baiter. People have suddenly woken up to the SLS being the last gullwing car from Merc. Has to be a great investment in my view. Sounds awesome, looks stunning and a good steer to boot. What's not to like. On Diablos, I think you're spot-on. I've watched that market and I see the same cars not selling too.
